About to Purchase

Hey guys, I am very new to the forum. After some research, I am planning to buy a 2013 E350. I've compared to BMW F10 and feels the E class is more luxurious. I am planning to keep the car for about 4-5 years. Is there something I need to know about E-class that I should know about? Please share your experiences about the driving dynamics and reliability. I've found the perfect car, the color is polar white, it has around 25,000 miles and priced a little above $35k. Thank you guys! Oh, one more thing, Have any of you guys purchase a car from a different state? If yes, is it very complicated. Sorry for the bad English, my first year studying in the US.

I have a 2013 E350 that I purchase with 15 K miles. I love the car, drives well with good handling and is certainly fast enough. I would suggest that you buy the two year extended warranty from Mercedes for the car. No, it is not complicated to buy a car from another state. Make sure you get all paper work from dealer such as title, bill of sale, a temporary dealer tag. The motor vehicle dept in your home state can tell you what you need to register the car in your state.

It should still have some of the factory warranty left. There's a couple of threads around in other forums possibly that talk about buying an extended warranty from other dealers at a good discount. Some dealers discount them, others do not. You can buy the warranty from any Mercedes dealer and it will be honored nationwide.

The E350 V6 RWD is probably the most reliable car MB sells in the US. But get the warranty anyway as any problems will be expensive. You might also check on pre-paid maintenance plan.
Also, is the car Luxury or Sport version? Driving dynamics are somewhat different.
As for different states, you will pay sales tax in the state where you register the car, so do not pay it if you purchase the car out of state. Wait and pay it when you register the car in state where you live. Legally, you have to register the car where you reside.
Happy Motoring!

Thank you for all the fast reply guys. I will bring the car to a provate shop for a PPI on friday next week. Im not sure if it is the sport or the luxury, but I don't think it is the sport because it does not have the flat-bottom steering wheel; it is not wood steering wheel either. It is the E350 RWD, cand find any 4matic within my budget here 😅. Oh, There's also one W204 C300, it is the 2013 MY and very low mileages. Im actually still considering these two, the W204 looks sportier and looks more suitable for me because I'm still 20 y.o, but the W212 offers a better value for me; more luxurious for a little more of money. Thank you for all the replies guys!

Post the vin number, you can usually tell if it's a sport package by running it through epcnet. It's Mercedes's website and it's free if you're in the US, you just need a credit card to register. I thought about getting a C class, but they don't seem to have as many options as the E class and the price isn't that much more on a used one.

The car is not a CPO. Can I still get the extended warranty? And the car is listed at $35k, can you guys give me estimations how much should I pay this car for? It has clean title, 25k miles, looks clean inside and I'm still not sure if it is the luxury or the sport package, for sure, it does not have the AMG wheels and flat-bottom steerimg wheel, so I think it is the luxury package.

Try running it through nadaguide.com, edmunds, and kbb. I prefer nadaguide myself as KBB tends to be on the high side which is why dealers like to quote that they beat kbb. You don't really mention what options it has and without the vin, no way to tell. For nadaguide, a good price would be somewhere between average and clean trade in from the dealer. An average price would be between clean trade in and average retail.

You can still get the extended from Mercedes. Typically if it's CPO, it comes with a one year warranty and you can buy two additional years. With the factory warranty, you could probably do either the 7/70 or 7/100 depending on how much you think you'll be driving it.

Here's a couple of threads where they talk about extended warranty prices. You probably still have at least one or two years worth of the original warranty left on the car.

Luxury vs. Sport

Dealer can tell you whether Sport or Luxury. Tip offs: Luxury grille has four horizontal bars and Sports has three; Luxury has "chrome" trim on bumpers and Sports doesn't; Luxury has 17" wheels and Sports has 18" wheels. Steering wheels are the same I think, but mine is a 2010.

I just purchased a 2013 E350 CPO. It has an orig fact warr until 4/2017 which is 4 yrs from orig purch date and 1 yr extra for CPO with unlimited mileage. So, I'm covered until 4/2018. I was offered an additional 2 yrs for $2400 but turned it down even tho the finance guy tried to scare me into it. Hope this helps some.

If I was you I would go back to the finance guy and buy the extra two years before he pulls the offer away.

I would probably contact some of those other sales reps selling extended warranties and see if they can beat it, they seem to have pretty rock bottom prices.

I think that $2400 for the two extra years is not a bad deal at all. I would be surprised if a MB dealer would go lower than that.

OP - When buying a car out of state make sure you understand the tax/registrations fee's of your home state. Some dealers collect neighboring states fees and remit them; others do not. I've bought 4 cars out of state. 1 dealer collected all fees and sent documents to my DMV (they did a lot of sales to my state) so it was painless. The 2nd collected the wrong amount sent me a certified check made out to the DMV, which I took to register my car (this took weeks to correct). The last 2 the out-of-state dealers didn't collect any tax/registration fee's and I took the paperwork to the DMV and paid it myself (this may not be an option if financed/leased).

MBUSA vs. Third Party

If you get a warranty, you have to consider MBUSA vs. Third Party. The MBUSA is backed by MBUSA and honored by ALL MB dealers. Third Parties may or may not be honored by some dealers and may require negotiations to have work covered by warranty.

Actually I was referring to the MBUSA warranty. In those other threads, there are sales reps at other MB dealers in the country that will discount their MBUSA warranty. Some dealers discount, some don't, and some even charge more than MSRP so the savings can be substantial.
