Halogen Low Beam Headlight Bulb?
 

Hey guys,

I need to replace my halogen low beam headlight bulbs. I have a 2010 E350. What is the recommended bulb replacement? Also is the bulb easily accessible that I can do this myself? A brighter alternative would be nice.

Low beam Halogen bulb would be the 55W H7. I believe that MB uses Osram brand. To get a slightly brighter illumination, you may try using a 65W bulb. I'm not sure what impact those may have on the plastic lens.

From what I've read on the forum, as well as in the manual, the right side is much easier to change than the left. There's just very little space on the left side.

I thought Mercedes used a GE H7 bulb. I searched this forum and see reference to Sylvania H7 SilverStar ULTRA as a good alternative. Is anyone using these?

I used the ultras, they were ok. Knock on them is lack of longevity.

The bulbs I pulled out of my 2013 E350 a couple of weeks ago were Osram H7's.

I replaced them with Phillips Diamond vision which has a color temperature closer to the LED DRL's. Also replaced the parking lights with AZN optics LED wedge. Now all the front lights pretty much match in color.

But in my opinion the Phillips Diamond vision are not as bright as the OEM Osram. It's maybe 80% to 90% the brightness. Most online reviews say they feel the diamond vision is significantly brighter than OEM. I feel the opposite.

But still it's good enough.

I had the SilverStar Ultra's before in a BMW and they were about the same. Maybe a tad big brighter than the OEM but you could not tell unless you looked at them side by side.

There really isn't too much room for improvement in halogen bulbs without going really high wattage.

If you want brighter, better look into an HID retrofit. That should give you brighter lights.

I'm not necessarily looking for brighter but if there is one and its compatible I would go for it. Are they easy enough to install myself?

I'm not sure of the 2010 E class, but for the 2014 versions changing headlight bulbs is a piece of cake. Simple twist and pull with bare hands (no tools needed).
Are you looking for brighter lights or higher color temperature (bluish looking)? Do you have projectors in your light housing?

Last week, I replaced my stock headlight bulbs with Piaa stratos blue 6000k H7 from ebay. I didn't get a chance to drive at night yet, but I really like the color of the bulbs. I tried replacing the bulbs myself, but after getting my hand stuck a few times I decided to have the dealer replace it. Lucky for me, one of the service writers replaced the bulbs for free. It took him about 10 minutes to do it (without removing anything). Kudos to Mercedes of Westmont.

On the 2010 E350, the passenger side is really easy, twist off a plastic cap, twist the bulb out and replace it.

On the driver side it's a PITA. If you have really small hands you might be able to go in from top. But the MB recommended way is to remove the wheel, remove the wheel well liner and go in from below.

Took me several days to get the driver side replaced and I had to borrow some tools because they had the wheel lugs on too tight. (Had to borrow an impact wrench to loosen the bolts).

iMHO, brightness should be the priority, otherwise hardly worth the effort and $:y

You can get the drivers side by loosening the line bracket which allows you to wiggle your hand in there a little easier.

Exactly ..... Unless you are retrofitting projectors, where you get the best of both worlds. But opening up the headlights in an MB is supposedly PITA, not to mention to forget any kind of support from dealer for the headlights.

I replace mine when needed with PIAA xtreme white H7 bulbs about every 10 months. I use daily driving to and from work 2 hours a day. Much better lighting than stock and look better too. Does take some skill to do driver side from above, however you can do yourself. Worth the cost for the PIAA bulbs.
