i took mine apart to find out there are 2 metal rivets holding the grill to the bumper ☹️. It's currently at the shop as I'm having them do it. I didn't want to end up breaking something on the bumper trying to remove them.

Thanks for the bumper assembly schematics. Takes some of the apprehension of doing the job away.

Did you drop the bumper to get to it? The schematics from konigstiger show 8 once the bumper is dropped. I'm wondering if I can get to them w/out dropping the bumper.

yeah I currently have it at the shop, it is much more work than I expected. Make sure if you go with anything but chrome to get the outer ring painted or wrapped. I didn't think about it, so it's an additional day in paint. It is crazy how many metal rivets they used to secure it to the bumper.

Unless you know what you are doing. It's gonna be a giant pain to change or really expensive. I bought an aftermarket AMG one and it took a lot of modification to get it to fit. It looks awesome, but that was too much of a hassle.

Giant pain or $$$$$$, can't tell me it wasn't worth it! Your ride looks great. Custom shows vision, anyone can be stock.

Both! It was supposed to be a simple swap (well besides taking the bumper off and drill out all of the metal rivets they secured it the grill with) but we ended up having to drill holes and make bracket to secure the new grill to the bumper, so it ended up costing a lot more than expected. I did get my lip, star and beauty ring color matched to give a cleaner look. Don't get me wrong, it looks awesome, but it was a lot of trouble and I'm working on getting a refund from the company as it wasn't a perfect fit as advertised.

Estimated time is 5 hours of labor. But depends if it is a direct fit or not. So depends on what your shop charges per hour 😉

Yeah, but that's what it says when you look it up in the system. You also have to consider that grill is secured with 200 metal rivets. Just be gentle when you remove the "beauty ring" as your new grill probably didn't come with one. Mine didn't.

2014 E350 4matic,
just did same job

Just did same work, I probablly purchased from same seller on ebay and shipping time and quality is pretty impressive. Actually this mod is pretty common in Asia (as least Korea and China) I can search about lots of info on grill replacement. Cost me about $200 for grill and $115 for labor.(Actually it took longer than what they charge me for labor, pretty time consuming work) I am very happy with result. I did tried to do at MB dealer but they quote $500 for install...If anyone want to know the shop, if you are in Chicago, I will can share with you (It is probablly lowest cost).

I thought they sold a grill were only the inside mesh Changes , easy swap ? Also the eBay seller I spoke with told me that the OEM star fits rite inside the aftermarket grill ... My concern is I have the OEM illuminated star on my grill now so would b a deal breaker if I coudnt fit it

pls help

It looks awesome! Good job on it. I’m going with an all black e63 single fin style. Currently trying to figure it out right now. Did you encounter any rivets like some other people have mentioned?

Yes there were rivets but it also came with new ones. They were along the top. We replaced some.

I want to do this mod but I have the OEM.illuminated star on my grill ... Has anyone had this mod done that has the OEM illuminated star ? I've read the OEM star is a bit more detailed to mount then the aftetmarkea ones so this means more work to swap out

How did it go. I thought about having the dealer replace my grill with the newer diamond grill and noticed that there is a camera on the grill. I don't really want to change anything that may effect the camera. I enjoy being able to park using the cameras and watching on the screen how to park
