Ordering a W213 (2017 E Class)

While waiting for my MB dealer to change my oil & filter last week I asked him when the 2017 E class will be out etc., he told me MB told him the dealers ordering guide will be out in March 2016 and they will be taking orders after that, the only unknown will be the exact pricing of the car and its' options but you will be able to order the car sometime at the end of March 2016. The only thing he knew for certain was that the engines will be the same as they are now and also they will be adding some type of mild hybrid gas/electric version as MB planned for it but my dealer doubts there will be much demand for it as fuel prices are way down as we all know. I'm planning on a W213 with the diesel engine as fuel economy is important, of course the only down side is that here in the NE part of the US a lot of diesel engines wouldn't turn over during the past two winters we've had here because of the Arctic like temps we've had over the past two winters, the dealer here said that he had to put on a second MB road service vehicle just to keep up with all the calls they had this past winter, but if possible I'll just have my dealer take out my MB engine block heater from my E 350 and put it into my 2017 E 250 if it will fit. For those that may live in cold climates, I am told that engine block heaters are standard on all diesel engine E class MB's in Europe, but if you want you can order one from the MB dealer in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. That's where I got my last two and although they weren't cheap (about $400) they were well worth it. I'd bet come January 2016 you'll be able to buy an E class for about 10% to 15% off list.

Likely introduction at the NAIAS is Jan 2016 at Detroit. March ordering for a 2017 model deliveries @ 3 month later makes sense. The only thing your dealer knows for sure, is likely NOT true as reported by all sources. New engines including a return to inline 6 cyl and the newly introduced 4.0L Turbo V8. Diesel verssion engine :nix: Reports of 2.9L with @300 and even 400hp variants.

Given that a diesel E Class was not available in North America during the first year of W212 nor during the first few years of W211, it is highly unlikely that a MY2017 W213 diesel will be available in North America. It will more likely be MY2018, perhaps even later.

As for winter start-ups for E350BT and E250BT in sub-zero conditions, I have yet to read of any start-up delay problems mentioned by Canadian owners who live in much colder climates than the NE region of the USA.

We have an E250, and made it through last winter in Calgary without issue. Temps here regularly fall below 0F. Diesel engines have glow plugs for cold starts. No need to worry.

Any updates on estimated order dates/ delivery?

No good info is likely to emerge prior to the car's debut this winter.

I'm on the opposite side of this equation, trying to get 2016 E63S as late as possible in case 2017 will have a smaller 4L V8, and I've been told by dealer/MB that there's still a Nov build slot, and there may or may not be a Dec build slot, but by Jan the factory will start switching over to 2017 models: so ordering early in 2016 sounds about right.

My lease ends before March. Perhaps I will go for other car for couple years and then will get back 213

I currently drive a 2012 ML350 which I purchased new the end of May 2012. I like to trade for a new car when the warranty runs out. Because I do not put many miles on that means I will trade based on the time factor so my four year warranty expires next May. If the information here is correct and I can indeed order a 2017 E class in March of next year, when could I expect delivery? Would it be later that summer or in the fall of 2016?

Too much speculation going on here.
