lower grill sensor is for what?
I noticed on my 2014 E350 sport 4 matic that on the drivers side lower front grill there is a sensor. Does anyone know what it is for? I wanted to put a chrome strip in the center of the lower grill but it would cover it up. I do not want to cover it up if the sensor cannot be covered up I would appreciate any help to find out what it is for. Thanks

May be radar sensor for distronic.

I think I recall someone posting a photo of a sensor on the lower grill and it turned out to be a temperature sensor. I could be wrong. Try posting a photo.

Talked to dealer he said it is what causes the beep when you get to close to the car in front of you. So I cannot cover it up because it will beep all the time

Pretty sure the guy you talked to is an idiot. Those are Park Distance sensors he's talking about and they are easily identifiable being on the actual front bumper and painted the same color as the car. They are not in the lower grill. Also there are 6 of them on the front of the car, 3 on each side.

Anyway, if it is just the ambient temp sensor, it should still work fine with the chrome strip installed.

I thought collision warning is available only on cars with Distronic and the sensor for that is the Distronic radar.

No, All current E classes have this beep when there are slow moving vehicles on the left side or if we are approaching too fast to a stopped car in front. I don't have distronic but do get this alert many times.
