New Trunk Open/Close Trick

For those of you that do not know, here is a trick for your automatic trunk. When you are in your car and your trunk is open, you do not need to get out of your car to close it. All you need to do is use the trunk opening lever on the driver's side door panel to close the trunk. All know you just pull on the trunk lever to open the trunk and now, just push the trunk lever inward until it closes. Note your car needs to be stationary ( no need to be in park ) to close. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that you could do that

Whenever I drop someone off who needs something out of the trunk, they always close it for me and I'm like "wait, let me close it for ...darn"

Definitely an emphasis on press the button in until it closes and locks. Otherwise, it just pops back open. Probably could be a good prank to play in the parking lot.

Lol. Try getting the wife get out of the car in a crowded parking lot and wait a minute or two while your ducked down in your set, then hit that lever and see people's reaction. Pretty cool feature if you asked me.

My pleasure. Have fun, it's pretty cool.

Doesn't work on wagons, unfortunately. Got me excited there for a minute until I tried it...

Are you sure your doing it correctly. The car does or does not need to be off, BUT the transmission needs to be in park. My 2011 E350 and 2012 AMG E63 sedans both does it. I would think the wagons does it as well, please check with your MB dealer. If the wagons really doesn't do it, the wagon owner got screwed as this to me is an awesome function. Good luck.

oh **** , it works...... how cool is that! thanks

I stand corrected -- it works on wagons! When I tried it yesterday, i just opened the trunk via the driver's door switch, which works even w/o a key n the ignition. It wouldn't close though.

This morning, I tried it again with the key and it works! Thanks for sharing this information...

It should work with the key in your pocket and the car off as well, if you have Keyless Go. It works that way for me.

Yeap, I have keyless go and no need to have it in on to close the trunk. Those who don't have keyless go may need to. Either way it'll work.

It would be cooler if we can do it on our key fob, but yeah. It is cool. I had kids ( not mine ) in the parking lot saying mom or dad, look, that trunk closes by itself. Lol.

Glad you guys find it useful.

dimitristx 06-13-2015 11:06 AM

Yep, same deal with our GL450...

Which is why I was expecting it to behave similarly :)

homeofstone 06-13-2015 12:10 PM

Yep, used mine from day one. Its in the manual.

johnfrancisco 06-15-2015 08:48 AM

It works for Wagons!!!

I can confirm that the trunk open button on the drivers door can also close it on the 2011 E350 Wagon! Although it must be held until the door latches completely.

YYZ-E55 06-15-2015 11:24 AM

Also works on the 211 generation (since 2003).

Redryder 06-15-2015 04:42 PM

My driver side trunk release lever doesn't seem to be able to be pushed in. Am I doing something wrong?

dimitristx 06-15-2015 04:45 PM

do you have the Premium 2 package?

In my E350, Electronic Trunk Closer is part of the P2 package. Don't know if it's included with other package.

Redryder 06-15-2015 06:02 PM

Oh, I guess you need the P2 and mine is the P1. Too bad the OP didn't specify

P2 is with keyless go which is what I have. Another forum member said his didn't have keyless go so I assume it's P1 and it works with the key in the ignition, have you tried that? Sorry if it doesn't work with P1 since my is with P2. Good luck.

KEY08 06-16-2015 11:09 AM

You would need the auto closing trunk for any of this to work. If you don't have the close button on the trunk lid, then you don't have the auto-closing trunk option. Option SA code 881-Remote trunk locking

hyperion667 06-16-2015 11:17 AM

I always try to open the trunk when my wife is back there......haven't gotten her yet......but it's only a matter of time :)

I also like the ninja close swipe feature

my wife likes this feature so much, she almost never closes the trunk when I'm in the car and once in a while I'm driving in the parking lot with my trunk open until I realize it is open and had to stop and auto close the sucker. :y

But it is a cool feature to have IMO.
