It's definitely a balancing act. If Japan made a mid size luxurious sedan with a 400hp V8, RWD or AWD, and decent sporty handling, then I would consider it. I'm sure it would be better than the Charger that I seriously considered. My point is that if I can get pretty much everything I want, and avoid an expensive system that is known to fail, then I would. It really isn't a question because I valued the better engine over the suspension, it just happens that the one with the better engine only comes without the airmatic. If I were the person ordering the car for $70k new with a warrany, and planned to bail on it in a few years, then I would seriously consider the optional airmatic in that situation, i would have to test the same exact car with and without, but I assume that would be hard to do with a special order option. There must be some good reasoning as to why they dumped it while upgrading many other substantial things.

The Lexus GSF, Infiniti Q70 5.6L are both mid size sedans with 400+HP.
I like to go fast in a straight line as much as the next guy, but I also want a comfortable ride and good handling. If I were in your shoes and need to own a car out of warranty, I would avoid airmatic as well, in fact, I would avoid all European cars altogether if reliability is high on your list.

I tried to look at the Infinity M series (now Q70), but their styling just does nothing for me, same with the ugly face on the newer Lexus, not even a consideration. I would bet both of those in the 400hp variety are even more rare and hard to find than the E550, and probably have retained much more value, making them much more expensive in the used market.

Lol, Hyundai. I'd rather have the Charger or 300s. My friend has one, and always in the dealership. You need that warranty for sure.

My neighbor has a Genesis and it is always in the shop. A real POS. Maybe he got a lemon. He looks like a sad sack when he pulls in his driveway and looks over at the MB. Kind of like Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh. Lol

Genesis is a very good car for the money. This is according to most subscribers to the Genesis/Equus forum as well as pro reviewers. There are far more problems talked about here than at the Genesis forum but of course their market share is much less than MB.

My 2012 ML350 has been flawless for 3 1/2 years now and if I get a sedan next May when the warranty runs out it will probably be an E class. However, I test drove a Genesis for the heck of it and it was impressive. The only problem is it handled like a boat.

But here is one I need to check out before making a decision - the supercharged V6 Jaguar XF. The XF is a direct competitor to the E class. It is totally new as to suspension/materials (aluminum), although it does not differ a whole lot in looks from the previous generation. Of course, that is a good thing because it was always a beautiful car.

The reliability has gone way up in recent years and to prove it Jag now offers 5 years/60,000 mile warranty PLUS all the maintenance is included during that period. Not bad. This new XF could be the perfect combination of luxury and sport handling in the mid-size segment. Certainly worth a look anyway.

I did a performance driving school with Davy Jones and Roberto Guerrero a few years back in the XF-R. That is a hell of a car. I like the style of the XF, but a lot of people say it looks bland and un-Jaguar like.

Lucky you!! That must have been a lot of fun, especially with F1 and Le Mans guys - AND that great car. I agree, the style is more generic and update and very similar to the direction MB takes as it has evolved from the old days. Anyway, looks/style are always in the eyes of the beholder. The point is that the 2016 Jag XF, (if indeed it proves to be reliable), with its heritage and now aluminum construction, could take a lot of sales away from not only the MB E Class but BMW, Audi and many others.

I would buy one of those. The interiors are gorgeous. I used to race with IMSA back in the day and when I blasted off in the XFR with Roberto next to me and dove into the first corner ***** out he looked at me and said "I think you've done this before". Ha! Yeah, it was a hoot and once again the XF is a really nice machine.

I test drove a 2009 and 2010 XF Jaguar right before I got my E. Only thing that keep me from getting it is that the back seat area didn't seem to have enough space for my kids to fit comfortably. Also, there are no dealers anywhere near me and I was concerned I'd have a hard time getting it repaired on occasion. Beautiful car and amazing ride. I wish I got a chance to test drive the one with the supercharger. Is that the 2011 year model and beyond?

XF is a really nice looking coupe with a proper V8, but the face is still done in the super ugly new Lexus corporate style. It's like checking out a hot girl from the back, then tapping her on the shoulder and she turns around, and whoa! Then you're like: I'll still hit it, but turn the lights down please.

I think I'd prefer the E550 coupe over the XF, which has a steep price tag. She may be higher maintenance, but that's the price you pay to bag the good looking one.

I looked at the supercharged Jag too, but I don't like the looks as much as the E550, and their reputation mechanically is horrible.

LMAO.

I think the Jag looks sportier and the E looks more luxurious. I'm happy I didn't get it either. Only thing I will say is that it's more of a novelty. I rarely see the those Jags at all. More then the E550 but I see so many other MBs that when I see the XF it really stands out.

Even in Chi Town there is a small Jaguar dealer network, so getting your MB serviced is never an issue.

I seriously considered the Jag XF as well. The one I test drove was a 6 cyl. with a supercharger. It had plenty of power, somewhere between the E350 and E550, more toward the E550 side. The back seat was hard to get in and out of and the sport seats are not available on the luxury edition. I did not like the black grille and black rim on the sport edition. Other than that, great car, the ride is very smooth and handles pretty good.

The seat coolers actually work in the XF, as opposed to the MB which blows cabin air around for no apparent reason.

Funny thing is that the MB seat cooler works better than BMW's.

^^My Ram pickup has better seat cooling, but the Benz as mentioned is just ventilated, not actually cooled. It does allow you to use the heat with the ventilation, which is supposedly nice for drying wet clothes, but since I don't wear wet clothes very often I wish it cooled like others have said.

This thread has wandered off topic but I have to say that my Hyundai Genesis cooled seats on high is like sitting on an ac vent.

I was only stating that the cooling seats in the Genesis are really cold. I agree that as a car the E is a way "cooler" car and my E63 is way faster. Back to the OP topic, I am worried that in a few years it may be hard to find and/or purchase any new V8 car.
