Full brake job at 28k?

My 2010 e350 is in need of a full brake job at just 28k. Got a brake wear warning on the dash and had my indy check it out.

He states all pads and rotors must be replaced. I confirmed that the rotors are indeed worn. Braking does feel a little loose, but I am still shocked this would be due so soon!

Said $850 for the whole job including sensors and fresh brake fluid...

Any feedback? Thank you!

youve only done 28k in 5 years?

mostly depends on how you drive. if you do a lot of hard braking then yeah, your brakes are gonna wear out faster than normal. but $850 for the lot is not a bad price i reckon.

Usually you go through two front replacements for each rear replacement. Have the fronts been done once already?

Got my 11 E350 with 29k. Just wanted to paint my caliper red. when I started taking calipers off I decided to change all the rotors/pads. when I took them off, looked like pads where about %75 life left and rotors looked pretty good just rusted a little. Went got new rotors/pads/sensors for about $430 for the better quality stuff, nothing cheap. Took me about 2 hours to replace. It depends how you drive, when your light is on it means time to replace

If most of your driving is stop and go in town the 28k is not that unusual. I drive mostly highway so I got just over 130,000 miles on the original front pads on my Hyundai Genesis V8, 170,000 on currently on the rear pads.

I doubt it since I bought it with just 10k... Im assuming what I have now is from when the car was brand new.

I don't have any personal experience with them but I know they are an OEM supplier for BMW and I have seen others report they have been happy with their pads.
For rotors, I have always used Brembo or Centric and haven't had any issues with either.

Thanks for all the feedback. Going to go ahead and get them replaced with the textar pads. Hope I will have less brake dust with these!

You have brake dust? I have a MY10 E350, 45k miles, same pads and never have brake dust. When these pads/rotors go I will replace with OEM pads.

Stock from factory. I don't know what brand Sindlefingen puts on but when they need replaced I will have the dealer replace with the same that came when the car was new.

When I bought new, I was prepared to have to deal with the break dust since it seems to plague every car. Not so with this car. I was pleasantly surprised. I have never had to address brake dust. The car gets dirtier than the wheels.

I have 83000 miles on the original pads and rotors, admittedly much of that is highway miles.

The pads are at like 75%, the rotors have a bit of wobble in them, but not enough to do anything yet.

Very strange. I had a 2011 E350 that I bought new. Traded it for the current 2010 E550. Both cars had terrible brake dust problem. Just two days after washing the car front wheels were getting black. Put on Autozone ceramic pads and no more dust.

I will NEVER use MB original pads again.

You got hosed somehow. It has probably been three weeks since my last wash. I could white glove the front wheels. I will ALWAYS buy MB original pads. Why would I EVER consider changing. 50K miles, no dust and still 50% pad life. It is clearly a no brainer.

Like I said "very strange". You are the first and only one that I remember in this forum claiming no brake dust with the OEM pads.

Ah well look seven posts up an you will find another member with the same experience as me. And gee he has a lot of experience with MB. I guess he and I are the only two owners who got the "special" pads. Every other owner did not.

Maybe you should start a pole to see what the overall experience is.

both my E's still has the original pads on them (as far as I know), my 63 has been replaced with OEM.

My E sedan can last a week with minimal dusting whilst the coupe gets heavy dusting (id say twice as much as the sedan), both dailys and the coupe even travels half the mileage 5 times a week. go figure.

now the 63 on the other hand, I barely use it but still collects brake dust more than the 2 cars! sometimes i just washed it and when I come back to drive, it already has brake dust on it! well ok maybe not but you guys get my drift.

I will say that with my S class I have the opposite experience. I want to find out why the E does so well while the S does not. When it comes time for pads for the S, I will probably look to what is being used on the E. Or go with some sort of ceramic pads that everyone has been raving about. As for the E. . . I wouldn't change a thing.
