Thoughts on 2 different e550's
Still looking for the perfect CPO'd e550.
Looking at two right now. First one is 2013, P2 car, pano roof with Lane Tracking package. 28k miles. Silver/black. $41,800 certified. Other is 2012, p2, lane tracking package, airmatic suspension. 20k miles. $37,800 certified. I like white cars and the price is better, and miles are less. BUT, the 2012 car has the option for the wood trimmed steering wheel, which I tend to think is a little less exciting and sporty. BUT, it has airmatic. Curious on group thoughts on the wood/leather wheel (anyone have it?) and airmatic, which I had on my e63. |
These seem very similar with the main difference being one has Pano and the other has airmatic. Miles are in line, pricing is comparable and only a year difference.
I like the airmatic system a lot but I would assume more people put that on their don't want list then want. However, Pano is a must for me, since I've had it on my last 3 vehicles. I guess I'd have to give the slight edge to the 2013 IMO but they both seem like solid cars. I feel like you could get each for slightly less. |

I know its nitpicky, but I am almost most concerned about that damn wooden steering wheel, and whether it would feel too "old and fogey" in a sports sedan. LOL. Guessing there is a bit of room on each car, once I make a real offer. Dealers never show too many cars until you seem ready to close the deal. |
Not a fan of the wooden steering wheel, doesn't look or feel good IMO. For the pano, it's so worth it, both of my cars has it and it is awesome! It just happens to make the car look better too 😉

Nothing beats the Airmatic! Go for it!

Does CPO cover Airmatic?
|
I think it comes down to personal preference. I love the wooden steering wheel and have thought of getting it for my car. However, I have noticed that on my wife's 2008 E350 the steering wheel has cracked when outside of warranty.
|
I have the wooden steering wheel and it love it. But besides that, get whichever one is best for you, either way you will love this car!
|
Buy a new steering wheel with the money you save on the 2012.

I'd go with the 2013. Fwiw I had the wood steering wheel in a previous w212 and I was sorta meh on it. My kids (in their 20's) thought it was too old man. The look was fine to me just did not like the way it felt. Good luck

I was looking at that white one too. Best deal available for the CPO's. I would snatch it up.

Pondering white 2012 but really wanted Pano. Ugh! |
would you guys ever consider buying a Canadian car?
check the site and the price would be 30% less (almost :-) https://www.dupontautocentre.com/lis...coupe-toronto/ By the way, I bought from this guy, and they have quality OFF-LEASE cars. NON-CPO though. |
It looks like the 3 spoke wood steering wheel so make a deal on the white one and get a 507 steering wheel :zoom:

the downside is you cant even crack the roof open without having to open the net cover which takes forever! so much heavier than conventional roof, would eventually creak and potentially crack. you cant even appreciate it unless youre seated at the back. if you want the pano look, have your normal roof wrapped in gloss black.

The E class looks great in white and I love the look of my wood/leather steering wheel. You won't regret it !

With respect to the steering wheel from my perspective, the four-spoke version is horrendous. The flat-bottomed wheel is by far and away the most sporty looking and the round wood wheel is somewhere in between. However, I believe the face-lifted E550 featured an optional flat-bottomed wood wheel that's gorgeous. To sum it up, just don't get the four-spoke wheel! Happy shopping. |

I think i just bought the 2013 you were looking at, lawguy. To add insult to injury, i'm also in Louisville - so you might have to see me driving it. Sorry about that (not too sorry though!)
As an aside, I love the wood trimmed wheels. Wish mine had it! Definitely not as sporty, but you'll forget about it when you goose the throttle. The drive back from Atlanta tonight was really something. Best of luck in your search. |
