New 2014 E350 Owner - First mod

After owning E550 for over 7 years, I settled down for a much newer E350.
I miss the brutal low end power of 5.5L, but this E350 is technology heaven.
I was lucky to find a fully loaded black/black with CPO.

Unless you are waiting for the new 2017 E-class, this is a great time to buy W212.

Here is a picture of my new ride after completing first mod, plasti dip rear emblems and license plate frame. It came out better than I expected.

Next up is 3M CS35 tint all around this week. Anyone has this on their black/black car?

I had 3M 20% on my black/black 2011 E and it's a very good quality film. I have Suntek CXP now (because the shop that carried 3M went out of business) and I have to say I'm not as impressed with this film. Already had to go back once to fix issues, and might have to go back again. Could just be the quality of the shop, not necessarily the film, but still. Never had issues with my 3M. The emblems look good in black though.

How did you do the emblems? Do they just peel off?

looks good, think I will do the same

Why not the star at the same time?

oh man did you take pics of the process? I really want to do this with my emblems. I'm just not sure how people are masking everything off.

I ended up getting 3M CS35 all around yesterday, and I really like this film.
It's not too dark, not too light. Also, the color tone is perfect for black car. It's probably great for silver and white cars as well.

I did not document the process of dipping the emblem, but followed this video to the dot.

Here are some important tips for those of you doing this for the first time.

1. Make sure there is no wind
2. Apply very thin first layer like in the video
3. Shake the can throughout the process
4. Make sure to depress the sprayer nozzle fully. It may shoot out bigger droplets when half way pressed
5. I applied 7 thin coats

nice looking ride. Rather then spending time putting 7 coats on can't you just go out and buy it already done? Looks nice tho

Actually, it took about 30 min total. You spray thin layers and it takes few minutes to dry up. Another big plus, you can very easily go back to original.

You should dip your wheels too! Also, roof spoiler is a must IMO.

Yes definitely for the wheels. I haven't decided which color yet. There are many choices now with metallic finish and glossifier.

Picture of 3M CS35 all around

Here is the first picture since I got the tint.
It's a cell phone pic, but I actually like camera in the Galaxy S7. I rarely use my big camera now

Center console organizer from Ebay

I also installed this center console organizer from Ebay today.
It's not much of a install but I had to make a small adjustment.

First, I was surprised to find out the tray is designed to sit half way up the console, not sitting at the bottom as I was expecting.

Secondly, the tray has our flanges on the top edge which basically sits on top of edging toward the top of console inside. Since the organizer is not a tight fit inside the console with about 1/16 inch of space all around, it will surely make lots of rattling noise.

I luckily had this form insulation tape in my garage which came to the rescue.

Unboxing

Insulation form taped toward the top

Placed inside the console. It is perfectly snug fit, and looks almost oem.

You can also see there is an opening to route media cables.

I like it! How much room did you lose?

About 2 inches in height is lost. Unless you are putting in something tall or stacking things up, you are not loosing much.

BTW, you can still lift up the tray, and place thing under the tray.

Congrats on the new car. I've dipped a family member's emblems and it's pretty easy. We masked off a small area around the emblems and just peeled away the excess when we were done. I'm actually digging that organizer might just have to order myself one.

AMG wheel center cap

I just got this done the other day.

I also installed the tree nail in the trunk. It's a must have. It was able to hold about 10 grocery bags in place.
