For reference, last year 2015 on labor day, I had no intention buying a car originally - was just browsing with a friend. Swung by MB, they still had 4 brand new 2014 left. My car sticker was 68K something - can't remember the actual number, I can look up the window sticker, but it had
P1
Lane Departure
Lighting pkg
Parking Assist (360 cam)
Sports pkg
Hybrid
Keyless Go
Power Trunk
comfort box

Dealer marked 51,999 on the window. Got it for 50K.

See if you can look for any leftover 2015's :-)

I should be clear - they were 2 hybrids and 2 diesels.... The dealer had a hard time moving them is what I suspect.

but if you are in the market for one (they discontinued the hybrid in 2016) but if they had 15's laying around...

I've seen some new 2015s and asking for pricing on them and a 2016 from some dealers seems that they're willing to do more for 2016s. I don't know why?

I like to buy new because I'm not mechanically handy but want to keep my cars until the wheels fall off. I feel like the best chances of having a trouble free, long lasting car is to get a new one and follow the maintenance schedule by the book.

My past cars have been donated to teenage family members. Thinking about used, I always worry that I'm buying a car where the previous owner(s) never filled up with premium fuel, never changed the air filter or got the oil changed. I do wonder if the majority of people who buy used can get a 50K mile car and drive it to 200K miles with not much more than performing the recommended maintenance?

Are the 2017s (w213) arriving in the showroom yet? If so, I'd assume they would be either getting some sort of kickback or rebate from manufacture to move the 15's...

I think they typically start showing up around September. Labor Day sale might be a good sale for cars?

A dealer which has a 2015 said they didn't realize one of the cars I asked about is a 2015, not 2016. They offered for an additional $2K lower. Not a large enough difference to get that over a 2016 I think.

Shouldn't the 2017s give dealers a rebate on the 2016s, not 2015s? Or does Mercedes provide additional incentives to sell 2 year old cars on the lot?

One dealer told me MB offers incentives on current model year and previous model year (if there is a lot of inventory left) So right now that would cover 2016 and maybe 2015.

Back in 2015 a dealer offered me $20k off a 2013 E550 that had been sitting on the back of their lot for 2 years. They said they were losing money on the deal because MB was not offering any incentives on it, and they had also been paying interest on it for 2 years. Plus the $20k would knock the price far below their cost but they were willing to eat it in order to get rid of it.

I declined and it was later sold to an out of state buyer at $13k off MSRP. Guess that buyer was desperate for the V8

Just got offered (didn't negotiate) a high option 16 E250D4 for ~12% off MSRP (about $8400 off). If I can do a little better, it might be very tempting. I have 2 months left til pull forward in my current lease, dealer said they would take care of that too. I suspect the diesels are hard to move with the Dieselgate fallout.

FWIW, this dealer has a W213 in the showroom right now.

10k-12k off on an E350 sedan is normal all year long.

I got $12,250 off MSRP(plus tax) on a 65,250 msrp car on my 2014 back in April 2014. I would buy a brand new 2016 only if it was at a heavy discount(around 15-20k off msrp).

At this point, you're better off buying a used 2014 with low miles for around $27k-$30k.

I LOVE HER (the car, not the GF lol?

I think historically, the California market is a lot more competitive and offers better deals than in much of the country, or the world for that matter. Those who don't have 10 dealers within 35 miles might not have the same pricing reality.

That's the way to do it. Seems there are a ton of lease return 14s on the market right now, and real world value isn't quite the original residual.

I have been looking at commercials about the annual Mercedes Summer sales, what kind of rebate does the dealer get from Mercedes during the summer sales. I would not find any info online.

2016 E-Class
I just picked up a 2016 E-Class in Orange County for $10K off MSRP. I could have probably pushed harder, but it was a fair price and the Dealership was very easy to deal with. A pleasant experience all around.

I went in looking at the ’17, but liked the ’16 better.

Thanks
Don't understand why you would negotiate in the first place. I mean cars like these aren't meant to be "affordable" in the first place. Such a cringe when people are trying to get 10K off..... Why not just get a Honda. And an old car is an old car. It will look slightly outdated. I can tell if a car is 1,2 or 3 years old or more. It's so obvious. So what good does that even give you?

Because only someone with no sense pays sticker on a car that isn't a high ticket item that they just have to have right now. Regardless of "affordability", no one in their right mind throws money away that they don't have to.

You mentioned in your other post in the W213 forum that you are new to credit. Have you ever purchased a car before?

You MAY be the ONLY one who would turn down a $10K discount, just to be snobbish about the whole deal.

I bought a new 2016 E-350 a couple of months ago; one dealership would discount about 10%, another just a little more, and another offered $10,050 discount. I picked the car with the $10,050 discount. I could have used that $10K to buy service or additional warranty, but I didn't. I like having NOT to spend the $10K and using it for something else. Or donating it to charity. Or something else. I think YOU should ALWAYS pay full sticker for all of your cars, every year. And why buy just one? And please be sure to let all of us know how much $$ you gave up, just because you wanted to, OK?

What a nonsensical comment. Negotiating on a car is not a "cringe" as you put it. You are either a troll, a fool or a **** based on your post. Possibly a combo of all 3 thereby creating a new and awful species.

You're not really making any sense as other posters have mentioned. The 2017 models are out, why are you even looking at a 2016 if you can tell how old it is? Not everyone knows how old the car is. I've given rides to people in my car and most of them are clueless as to the year, only if you're giving rides to car people do they know the actual year. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between a 2014-2016 but the 2017 style is different. And these cars are affordable to those who make enough money. I get a feeling that you're not really the target market and you're just trying to keep up with the Jones. It's standard for all dealers to expect buyers to negotiate. If you do European delivery, you automatically get 7% off but people have been able to negotiate for 10% or more. Negotiations are common in business.
