Not being mean or anything as I certainly wouldn't want to pay $700+ for plugs but if unable to pull engine cover then maybe one shouldn't attempt any mechanical service

I can understand the desire to reuse the engine cover so caution can save some $$$. I changed my plugs at 60K and they didn't look too bad so I plan to go to 120K with the new ones.

A little freebie I'll throw in: When starting the new plugs place a 4" - 6" piece of vacuum hose on the plug to reduce the danger of "cross-treading". Once the plug is installed and prior to torquing just pull the hose off.

$700 for a plug change in ridiculous. Did that include anything else?

Are all MB services this expensive?

After reading the service bulletin linked above and seeing that the intake manifold needs to be removed on 2012 and newer E350s, I now see why it's so expensive. A local indy mechanic quoted me $600 and told me the Star manual describes it as a 5 hour process. The dealer also told me $712 and said 4-5 hours without looking at the book.
The earlier E350 didn't require removing the intake manifold and it would be just as easy as the other dozens of cars I've changed plugs on. I plan to wait till 70,000 miles and have them check for carbon deposits on the intake valves at the same time while I could possibly get those cleaned under warranty at the same time.

2013 E350 W212 Engine 276.952 Spark Plug removal at 60K service interval

I read #13 posted by Konigstiger This PDF was a great guide....

I have removed #1 Front Engine Cover
I have removed #2 Air filter housing.
#3 Intake Manifold Can anyone post how they removed the intake Manifold...

With the #2 Air filter housing removed I was able to pull the T1/1 ignition coil. My standard Deep well 5/8" socket will not go down into the spark plug well inside the head. What brand or where did you purchase the correct Spark Plug socket?

Changing the spark plugs 2014 E350-wrench.png

Looking in the EPC site they call for a tool W 278 589 00 09 00 Spark Plug Wrench. I'm not finding it online to purchase..

Spark Plugs. in this E350 engine 276 with 3.5 Liter I haven't seen anyone posting much about what type of spark plug they are using or are considering. My research shows Denso 3495

Question for Konigstiger .... are you accessing the PDF inside the EPC site? I paid for a subscription but I can't see where those PDF's are located... I was hoping to look for additional details.

Wow, you have to remove the manifold to do plugs? Very happy to have a 2010 in that case. I've done lots of maintenance over the years on cars and everything else, but I'd be a little dicey on pulling the manifold on one of these beasts. Do something wrong and you may end up with a vacuum leak or some other issue and you may have to repeat the process. As cheap as I am, this is probably one I'd pay to have someone else do.

I wonder if other direct injection engines make you remove the manifold to access the plugs? To me, this is poor engineering.

Many thanks for you assistance and direction removing the intake .......

Spark Plug socket update...... With a flashlight and a micrometer I measured the spark plug well it is approx .810" in diameter. After looking closely I noticed the spark plug wasn't the standard 6 sided hexagonal shape. Thus none of my attempts using a 6 point socket worked.

I have just discovered that my 12 point 9/16" deep well socket will slide down into the well and fit over the spark plug. However it appears to be loose or not a snug fit...... I'm now searching for a 14mm socket with 12 points is such an animal exists....

My neighbor is an Indy mechanic..... I'll see if he has such tool in the garage....

I love a challenge and especially working on cars.....

So I just talked to the Benz Dealership. They quoted me $384 before the $75 off coupon to do the plugs on a 2013 W212. Im tempted to go this route seeing how much work is involved (Manifold removal). Also my car is still under CPO warranty so idk if I want to give them a reason to say "i screwed it up"

Is this a good price?

I paid 300ish labor to have mine installed... I'd say with the coupon you have a good deal. And I have 2 more plugs to replace than you do.

Well I am at the dealership right now getting the plugs done. They just told me that they incorrectly quoted me....It should have been $682. I expected that...seeing how thats in line with what other forum members are being quoted.

Seeing how they made the mistake they said they would honor the price of $380.... (parts and labor)

I brought the parts to them, which came out to about $80 from ebay I think... OEM parts in OEM packaging. I guess yours would be $60, or you could have 2 spares laying around, which wouldn't hurt. So all in all, I was in about $380 as well... still a good deal lol

Not very good advice.

Never go over the time stamp. These are aluminum blocks. The plugs will seize.
