My retuned ECU is back in and everything is just peachy now. So far so good. I will ask RT what the issue was with the first tune, but I imagine that question will go unanswered. I think I'll drive around this weekend and keep trying to replicate the issue from before, but I don't think it'll happen again. Fuel trims look good and my boost levels have gone as high as 19psi (so far). I don't think it'll go much higher than that, though. For reference, on the stock tune I got no more than 7psi, and on the bad tune it topped out at 13ish.

And yea, normally a tune will be around 11-13 psi for E550.

Tony CPA stated he did 11's with new tune. Look a few pages back.

I don't think he has tracked the car since the retune. I am pretty sure he is basing that off the fact that his car ran 12.2 before the retune, and it now feels a lot faster.

At the same time, if it was just matter of re-tune, it is pretty disappointing on Renntech's part to not take care of this sooner (or even before they released the tune to public). This is your personal success but failure (or barely making it on their promise) on Renntech in all practical and realistic purposes. Not trying to knock RT by any means, but someone has to call it for what it is.

I would think you are just glad that it works now and I would be as well. But I think you (and potential customers) deserve a better answer on how and why previous tune did not work. And if they think their tunes work better now, why and how? Does not have to be technical down to the numbers, but generally technical enough for most of us to understand. Probably a fat chance though, "take it or leave it" is more than common in aftermarket tuning scene.

Agreed. I am happy it works now and, while I would like a better explanation, putting my foot to the floor helps me care less that I probably won't get one haha. In related news, according to my OBDII app, this morning I peaked at 574hp/627tq @18psi. I really need to get it on a dyno and see what it's really putting down! I've been looking in my area and it's all mostly Subaru tuners, but I think there's a Porsche tuner that might have an AWD dyno. Will update when I get in a few dyno runs.

Most Subarus are awd so they should have awd dynos

I think all of them these days are AWD... my issue is that I would rather take my car to a German car tuner, specifically one which specializes in MB or higher-end cars, like Porsche. It's obviously not going to be tuned there, but I took my G37 to a shop that specializes in Toyotas (they were hosting a dyno day) and they wanted to cut into my harnesses to hook the car up to their dyno because they didn't know how else to get into it. I refused, and had to live with not getting the torque numbers. I just don't want a repeat of that situation, especially not for this car. Granted, that shop has questionable practices to begin with, but I'd rather have someone who knows what they're doing perform the dyno.

Did a quick run with a S63 biturbo sedan leaving work the other day... he couldn't widen the gap, but I wasn't gaining on him either. For less than half the price of the AMG, I can accept this result! I think his higher HP might favor him in the long run, but for a quick 60-some other number pull, he wasn't getting away from me as easily as he would've liked. I can dig it. But this just makes me wonder what this tune would be like on that car...

In other news, still trying to get a hold of someone to get some dyno numbers... apparently no one responds to emails these days. Also haven't had time lately to make a trip or put much effort into contacting them. My latest "best" numbers (on winter mix Shell/BP 93) have been lower than before, but I've also seen the boost go up to 19.7psi very briefly.

So, an update on this. OP was wanting to know how the transmission holds up... so far after about 6 months and ~7000 miles, I'd say it's still holding strong. In the first 5000 miles, it probably burned about 0.5L of oil, which was enough to cause a flag in the system. If you change oil more often than that, you shouldn't have an issue. I don't know the original amount of oil put in since it was done at the dealer (so I assume 8.0L, but who knows), but I got out 7.5L with my MityVac and put back around 8.0L. No other issues with the engine or transmission so far.

In related news... I was driving around town last week and the roads were deceptively crappy, and I hit a hidden dip followed by a bump when crossing an intersection. I think the right front wheel may have gotten slightly airborne, and tweaked the axle under throttle load. It pretty much disintegrated within a day and I had it replaced under warranty. Not an issue with the tune, per se, but figured I'd mention that for anyone looking to get the tune so they are mindful of their lead feet.

As expected, the power is still pretty much unusable in everyday driving scenarios, especially in the heavily congested area I live in, so it somewhat loses its appeal after you get used to it. But it does make every other car you drive seem slow, and still puts a smile on my face when I do get a rare opportunity to stretch its legs. Now averaging about 17-18mpg in my mostly-city/suburban driving in rush hour traffic, and I get around 19 when I do long highway stints... unless the highway is empty lol

I think ur one comment made me rethink my 2 weeks of research on this car. The only reason I want the car is fast 0-60 times. I can’t think of a faster car for the price nowadays while still being a luxury e class
