I had a stretch of 5000 miles on the odo with mpg at "--.- mpg", probably because it was so terrible

Might also be related to ecu tune + heavier foot...
i would sacrifice a few mpg over hp tho lol

Yesterday. Still amazed that a 4,000# car with 400+ HP and 4WD can return this type of mileage while blasting down the highway.

I have a 2012. We took it on an 850 mile trip this past weekend. The computer showed 28.1 while the actual (computed) mileage was 26.9.

I'm happy getting that kind of mileage especially when it seems I spool up the turbos quite often

With average 60 mph you could not do much of city driving.
In the city most of my driving is on 45mph multi-lanes streets, but with all the stop lights, I never get above 20 mph average.
There is lot of variables in city driving and not too many people can understand them.
OP wrote his mpg in "65-80 mph" driving. Per my experience between 65 mph and 80 mph the fuel consumption will jump by 20-30%. That is a lot.
My Bluetec can make 60 mpg on highway, but on short drive, in 50F winter it will drop to 20's
I can only imagine how drastic it can be for people driving in freezing temperatures.

From my house to Gainesville round trip is approximately 2100 miles. I went to Cedar Key on the gulf, which is maybe 120 miles R/T and 50mph. Other than that it was all local multi-lane roads (45).
Expressways were all posted 70 and I was doing 80-85 with my Waze app blaring out the police locations in one ear and my wife blaring out my speeding in the other. I did manage to hit a monster pothole and am now sporting a nice tire bubble. Seems even Southern roads suffer the same bad quality road issues. LOL Happy New Year!

That's great mileage considering the way back is uphill.

we got similar mpg on our trip to Wi from DC and back. We were averaging 72 mph and about 25.4 mpg. Not bad at all.

My "real world" results end up around 17-18mpg. It's probably because most of the driving around here is traffic laden crawls between red lights. The rare occasion I've been able to actually cruise along at 50-60 I'll top 30 mpg. But only just.

I totally agree - the perfect highway car - I drove non-stop for most of a day and was not even sore!

2016 GLE 63S AMG SUV, 2015 GLA 250 (Previously: 2010 MB E550 (V8, 5.5L))
Town ave: 15.5 mpg, long distance, close to 28mpg

2010 E550 (v8/5,5l)
I was pleasantly surprised getting close to 28mpg with this big engine, on trips over 500 miles, mostly freeway. Generally set the cruise between 80 and 85, depending on the area/state and my comfort level at the time
I noticed on my last trip it was not as good and wondering if its because the car is getting on in years, or just needs new spark plugs. Dealer keeps telling me they are not due for replacement yet.

I never drive slow, even short distance, so that consumption number suffers often and can be as low as 13 mpg.

and yes, just a beauty to drive long distances!

Figured I'd add in....

2012 E550 108k miles
Last 400 miles i've averaged 24.5mpg Of that 8/10 was probably highway @75-77 mpg.

When I drive to another office it's about 150 miles roundtrip and I get about 26mpg inlcuding probably 20 miles in town.

MPG on a V8 is like the price tag on a supercar, if you have to ask then it's not for you!

I have often wondered about the 11.8 mpg reading in short-drive, heavy traffic as well. 11.8 mpg = 19.93 liters per 100 km, so it sounds like the calculations or the value (in metric) cannot exceed, or won't be displayed if it exceeds, ~20 liters/100-km.

I have about a 25 mile round-trip, non-highway commute each day and average about 16-17 mpg "city." My long-distance highway trips (almost 400 miles) run about 26-27 mpg (actual), mostly with cruise-control set at prevailing speeds.

I've got 29 data points in a spreadsheet, and the actual mileage (except for two data points) is always lower than the indicated, by an average of -2.7%. I use the same pump at the same gas station and stop at the first shutoff click.
