That's great news i700plus! Congrats on getting it on the road again. Any repair details or insights they had while repairing that are worth sharing? Or was it just bad luck?

Great news I'm very happy for you that everything worked out. 10k lighter in the wallet is still a pain in the **** but all things being taken into account. Not the worst outcome as it seemed in the beginning.

Telly and MBS Automotive did an amazing job on the repair and the price was unbeatable. While it did take a while to get the job completed I'm just happy I finally don't have to look at a broken down benz sitting in my garage anymore, They've gained a lifelong customer. Also thanks a TON to S140s and jumpman726 for recommending I bring my car to them.

I've put about 150 miles on the car since I picked it up on Monday. Passed the emissions test and was able to renew my registration on the vehicle as well. I'm back in business! Thanks everyone for sticking along for the ride, hopefully its only minor repairs from here on out.

I'm glad that this had a positive outcome, because I was certainly worried. But I'm saddened that the dealership didn't come through and try to help you out more. The bottom line is that the dealership is a business, out to make money and not lose any. I'm pretty certain that you will not be buying another vehicle from them, or getting your car serviced there. And they certainly lose a customer for life.

I remember reading early on in this post that MB was going to kick in some money for the repair. What did it end up costing you out of pocket? The whole $10k? What was the ultimate diagnoses? Bad bearing, lack of oil, parts failure?

I'm curious too if the Indy was able to look at the old motor and give a diagnosis as to what happened ?

They did say that I definitely did throw 2 rods through the side of the block (one on each side). We never did fully find out however what caused the total destruction of the engine. I'm still thinking it was something that occurred as a result of the B service I had done right before it happened but at this point its finger pointing..

I was almost was tempted to ask MBS if I could take the old one back and make a coffee table out of it or something but the logistics of getting a 400 pound engine home that would likely sit in my garage for the rest of my life collecting dust didn't sit well with the wife ha!

That is really a nice idea, hope you could convince the wifey and actually prove you can work on it, lol

When an engine went on a previous car, I just took the piston and had them sand blasted at a machine shop and used it as a paperwork on my piles of paper.

MB was only willing to kick in 10k towards the repair if it was completed at the dealership I had the service done at 7k ago before the engine blew. They were charging 30k. With the 10k discount it would have been 22k all in for a new engine shipped from Germany installed. I just couldnt stomach having the repair done there and paying 22k for a car I bought in March 2016 for 25k.

The final cause on the report was connecting rod failure however due to the carnage it was impossible to pinpoint what exactly started the sequence to the rod failure.

Not out of the woods yet..

Guess what everyone?

I'm back... Have put just under 1500 miles on the car and the PS pump appears to have went out today while we were leaving the grocery store. Leaving another nice long trail of fluid behind the car. I'm literally ready to roll it off a cliff.

Its currently on it's way back to MBS. More updates to follow once I hear back...

I had my steering leak around 40-50k miles in SF city (not the best city to get stuck in) , luckily i could still park (barely could move the steering wheel) in a spot that opened up in front of me.
Turned out to be a PS seal/gasket.
SF dealer replaced it under warranty i had at that time.

Sorry to hear that. , hopefully nothing serious.
And yes i lost all my fluid , and it looked like yours in pic.
Good luck

You're turning into a cautionary tale about buying one of these cars. I also have a 2010 E550 and now you're starting worry me, lol. Hopefully this is the last thing you'll have to repair for a long time.

Sorry OP. Are you taking it back to the same shop that fixed the engine?

UPDATE:

I've been so busy enjoying the vehicle I forgot to reply that its fixed!

It was something on the power steering pump that came lose. MBS was literally able to turn it around in less than 24 hours at no charge! With AAA for towing and the free repair all I had to do was drive down and pick the car up the next day!

I have to say MBS really pulled through and the service has been better than I've seen at dealerships. They really know their stuff and back everything they do 100%. I was so frustrated when this happened however was astounded that by 2PM the next business day they called saying it was ready to pick up!

If you live in the southern WI / Northern IL area you really cant get a better indy shop than them. They have a customer for life!

Happy to hear it turned out well and that they took care of you. Shop reference noted in case I am ever up there.

Glad it worked out. Interesting that they did it for free. Was it a simple thing like a loose hose or something they caused during the prior repair?
