Did the 2015 W212 get COMAND NTG 5.1, or was it only 2016?
Question in title. Basically, it seems like 2015 was the launch date for the updated COMAND for the W212, but I can't find any specific documentation stating if it was only available on 2016 models or if it could also be found in 2015s?
Also, is there an easy way to tell the difference between the two by looking at pictures? Hard to tell in online car listings.. |
Bumping for visibility. Can anyone tell me when NTG 5.1 was introduced into US-Spec W212s? From what I understand, 2016s definitely have it, but what about 2015s?

My 2015 does not, I think it's 4.7. In any case I've had a 2016 loaner with the newer system, mine does not have that.

One thing, IIRC, is that the 2016 Comand system, under sound settings, has three settings, namely treble, mid-range and bass. The 2015 system has only Bass and Treble. (Both observations for the Harmon-Kardan system, not the base system.)
Also, the 2016 system seemed to have a higher screen resolution. I'd be OK with either of these. Now the 2017 system, with its fumbly "deck of cards" video interface, baffles me. |
The 5.1 has a MUCH higher resolution camera system and Android Auto/Carplay capability.

I'd be fine with either, I would not wait for a 2016 to show up just because of the NTG version.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you notice anything about the 5.1 system that would have compelled you to wait for the 2016 had you known it would change?

personally 4.7 is simpler to use if you ask me
