To panorama or not to panorama?

Going to look at a '14 with the panoramic roof today.

I have read through the forums and I feel like I am familiar with the issues the roof has had, i.e. pops and creaks, tightening the rail bolts, TSBs, etc.

Can anyone tell me if their noise issues have recurred AFTER having the bolts loctited and retorqued, or the seals lubricated?

Is there a noticeable increase in wind noise with panorama?

My wife wants an E350 because as she puts it, it's the "sturdiest" feeling car out of everything we drove. She comments on it every time we go to drive a new one - "it feels so solid". I have to agree with her. Does the lack of roof rigidity create any noticeable difference in this feel? I'm assuming a lot of the guys here put their panorama-equipped cars through more of a "rigidity torture-test" than I will, either on a 15-minute test drive, or possibly in years of daily driving too.

Thanks,
Darel

honestly i haven't had a problem with my pano roof in 3 yrs other than the dealer lubricating the mechanisms. I should also say that I don't really abuse it as much as some people do...

I love the Pano. My 2910 has it and I just bought a '14 with it.

I also love my pano roof. Upon driving a 16 C300, 16 E350, 09 ML63, and 03 S430 all without pano I noticed no difference in noise in the cabin when compared to my car.

I think it makes the car feel more spacious inside. Also on warm days there's nothing like opening up the Pano and getting that additional breeze. The only detractor is that on a sunny day with the Pano open on long rides you might need some sunscreen lol. Since you're literally sitting in direct sunlight for extended periods. That can easily be remedy by closing it (Mines is slight tinted) or closing it and closing the shade.

Good Luck

Does the 2910 model levitate off the ground and brew coffee for you and drop you off / pick you up from work on its own? I assume it can fly you into space as well.

E 300 AMG-Line diesel-Hybrid - 2021
had pano on my 2009 C-sedan, 2012 E-coupe and 2015 E-sedan.

Wouldn't wanna drive without it. Makes interior nice and bright (especially with black leather) and nice to open during the summer (duh).

I have never really had problems with squeaking sounds, though EVERY one of my THREE cars had the same problem occurring:

sometimes when closing the roof it will half close and stay there, or just re-open again.
takes 1-2 tries to close. seems to mainly happen on hot days.

personally I don't find an non pano roof driving sturdier than a pano,
but then again, I'm not a F1 driver...

Have not had some creaks addressed yet, but totally worth it for me.

Key, what did you get exactly?

It is a 2014 E550 4Matic with most of the options available like Pano roof, Distronic, Parktronic, Lighting package, Keyless Go, auto trunk, illum sills, wood-leather wheel, folding rear seats, and on. The 350 is a nice car. Good luck.

Assuming the car is still under warranty. Buy the car if you and your wife like it, and enjoy the H*** out of it! Congrats.

I have the pano on both cars. It was better on the W211, just a few minor squeeks over rough bumps. It's much worse on the W212, the cracks and pops when going over a ramp or a tough pothole. Still haven't done the bolts yet, next on my list. As for noise, don't really drive it when it's open, pretty quiet aside from the ramps/pothole noise. And it's nice, makes it feel nice and open. Pretty much everyone who's in the car likes it. And I'd get it again. Hope that answers your questions.

Too bad the shade doesn't completely block out the sun. I live in socal and it gets hot as hell under that MB "shade".

It was about 87 here today. Didn't really notice, had the shade open. The A/C works fine.

Someone always brings up the shade issue. I never use it. The AC in MB cars is superior to other makes. Those people should just buy cars with solid roofs.

I specifically chose this car with the Pano. It looks and performs great from the inside and out.

If you have the option for a pano roof and dont get it, it should be considered a crime in the upper 48 states.

You don't say where you live, but in the hot states, panoramic roofs generate more heat than normal sunroofs. The reason is that normal roofs have an insulated panel, whereas the panos have only a thin sheet of fabric that has to roll up.
If you get in a regular sunroof car and feel the panel, you can barely detect heat. If you get into a pano roof car and feel the "sheet," it is quite warm.

Thats why you put a clear tint or even a regular tint and that problem is solved. I live in Los Angeles and it gets up there, so i tinted the pano roof. But on a clear day or in the evening theres nothing like having the pano roof as you and youe rear passengers have a view of the sky. Also makes the cabin feel more spacious.

Because the more you know...

Pro's?
1. Feels more spacious for people in the back.

You decide what's more important to you.

Feels more spacious for the driver too, but only when you're looking around or checking your blind spot. Then you're just happy you have it. Plus if you want a car that's loaded, having the pano roof is part of the package of a loaded car. I also have bixenons, keyless go, power trunk closer, and parktronic in addition to the pano roof on both cars. All those other options have drawbacks too, but if I wanted to save gas/money, I would have gotten an econobox.

If I were getting a white car, then pano would be required. That looks so good.
