noob questions on 14-W212

Hello guys, just picked up my 2014 4Matic; I have some silly questions.
1. I got two keys, which one is admin and which one is secondary?*
One of the key is black and the other one is grey(regarding the slider for valet key). Can I set a speed limit or is that a package that is missing? lol.

2. How to find the current version of the COMMAND and Navigation firmware information? I went to Settings, in the Infotainment system, but there is nothing like "About", or similar..! I want to know, whether the previous owner got it updated with the latest release.

3. What comes with the spare tire kit? What are the tools that I need to verify? I see the donut spare though.

* Is there any difference like the Ford does with it's MyKeys (where I can set the speed limit to 80 max, volume limit, etc.,)

Thanks in advance, more questions to come

Regarding question #1. There is no "valet mode" that I am aware of. There is a "valet key" that you can remove from the smart key that will allow you to lock the glove box and trunk (on certain models) and even open the door if you lose power.

Do a YouTube search for "Mercedes Valet Key"

Can't help with the other 2 questions sorry

Does mercedes offer admin and non-admin or they both programmed to do the same?

1. The grey key is on some models programmed to unlock just the drivers door (and then you have to unlock the rest of them from the inside with the central button), and the one with the black slider opens all of them, it is the normal key. Sometimes both are normal.

NOTE: if you search on google you will find a way to reprogram the grey one to operate same as the black one, its very simple and matter of pressing certain button combo on remote.

2. l think you have to press on your audio the following keys: hangup+*+1 or hangup+#+1.
One of these combos should get you in the engineering mode of the car from where you can have some fun, and change some settings if you want. You should also be able to get the info on command, navi, and other features you have.

3.On the spare tire should be a ''plate or basket'' that covers the centre hole of the wheel. It should contain boom truck, key for tire screws, and some nice white cotton gloves wrapped with instruction manual)

Good luck and have a nice ride

Cool, I'll look more into it.

Mine's 2013/2014, and they are asking 250$+ taxes for latest firmware upgrade, which I declined.

4. What is that thing? I understood the Net below the zipper kind of thing, is that for bigger water bottles or something?

yup, that is the standard jack kit. Just spin out that housing to remove and then pull up the spare.

That zipper thing is a bottle holder like you thought.

Great, thanks. While the cotton gloves are missing, obviously, I do not need it now, but I'll take them apart and see whether all the tools are there, or not..!

Thanks for the info.

Many things, audio, video, rear view camera, aux, bluetooth, a.c. (blower speed, fan speed, etc) phone, anything you have in command. But be careful, and remember what changes you made in case if you want to put it back.

I was reversing the car and it recognized the bushes/plants while backing up, but did not made a sound when reversing into a wall. I was going slowly to test it. While I didn't go that close, I did went till the red line on the 360 cam.

Yes mine exhibited the same behavior when I first got it. Weird huh?

I was testing the 'steering hold alert" feature, and I purposefully didn't held the steering for more than 5 seconds from it's beep(the road is smooth, empty for 1 mile ahead and behind, was under speed limit...!)
Now, it stopped the whole Distronic Plus functionality.

So, in real life, if I fainted/heartattack/sleeping and was already using the Distronic Plus for adaptive cruise control, and the vehicle's computer just gives up on me? it didn't even slow down..!

I can make a video, once I get the vehicle back to me, from service.

Also, I tested it after I had the latest firmware.

Well, at least it cancelled Distronic and let the car naturally decelerate. I guess that is better than keeping the cruise control set and accelerating the car into oblivion...lol

Good point, but, what if the road has a curve ahead*? I think, slowing down, while the Distronic plus is still active is way better than, just giving up.
I believe, when you're unconscious/sleepy are the most help needed, than when you're awake..!

*What if the road curve has a guard rail; What if there is a cliff, with no guard rail (so many similar roads in BRP and California mountains).

If you see the 2017, when the driver is non-responsive, the vehicle pulls over to the far left lane (USA), turn on the blinkers, tighten the seat belts and stop on the side of the road. That should be fairly simple with a software/firmware update, for older cars, like ours, with enough hardware, I believe.

So, for the part of question 1. Is there a way to set the max speed limit on this vehicle?
I'm going to Virginia, with NC license plate, so, If I'm going 67on 65 and fellow drivers with Virginia plate drives at 70/65; I will get pulled over (based on experience).
Either way, I want to set a speed limit of 75mph for rest of this trip, can I do that?

Thanks.

Sadly, I think not. The best you can do is use cruise control or Distronic, and set the desired speed for that leg of your trip.

I was playing in the Engineering menu the other day and found a nifty setting to allow max 30mph valet speeds... didn't try it out, but I should. Doesn't help your situation, though.

5. My idle is at 500rpm, is that fine?
My motorcycle and other cars I've driven so far are between 800-1300rpm.
Will low RPM idle hurts the engine?

Yes, 500rpm is fine; mine idles around the same.

Actually you want it to be the lower, the better. Higher rpm are indicative of other engine troubles (or something taxing the engine).

I agree, I just wanted to clear that out.
The manual for Yamaha FZ6 recommends 1100-1300 RPM, and other cars were similar.

Also, the cold start's idle on my w212 is around 1000+, so, staying there in park for 30 seconds brings it down to 500-600 and then I put in gear, FWIW.

Yeah most cars' rpm are around 1k+ when you first start them cold (and even higher when freezing weather), then they mellow out once the engine warms (and after the ECU gets feedback from various sensors for: incoming air volume and density, fuel burn ratio, and a bunch of other calculated variables). It then opens a small valve that allows air to bypass the throttle to increase the RPMs to whatever it's programmed to keep the car at while the temperature rises. It also uses this valve in regular operation to keep the car from stalling.

The BMWs actually had a cool "hidden" indicator on the tach that lets you know when it's "safe" to engage gear and drive.

Windows are sliding by 1-2 millimeters for no reason.
Suddenly I'll start hearing wind noise, and I have to pull the windows up. I'm not sure all 4 at the same time or not, but definitely driver side and driver side rear window.

the engineer wasn't able to replicate the issue. I remember someone had this issue recently, so, I'll follow their "reset" steps.
