Stereo upgrade.
I'm wanting to upgrade the HK system in my 2012 w212. I realize that I will loose some functions but i have some questions.
1. What size screen is the stock system?
2. Would i be able to retain steering controls with an adapter and if so where can I get it?
3. Would i be able to reuse the nav and sirus modules if they are separate from the head unit?
4. What size are the speakers in the doors?
I realize I have to rewire whole car but I'm ok with that.
Thank you for your time and advice.

Just curious as to what you would put in the car that you think is better than the current system? And yes, none of the existing functions, Nav, Bluetooth, would probably work.

I really have grown to dislike the command system. It's actually nothing special really. I've heard way better systems in cars of lesser quality.

My custom system in my old w210 sounded better than the HK system in my w212. But I don't really want to touch any of the electronics and stuff so I left it mostly stock, I transferred over my amp and sub from my old car. Good luck with yours.

The biggest issue has nothing to do with stereo or nav functions... While you can control a lot from the steering wheel submenus on the instrument cluster, there are settings and other system related access/information which would be lost. (Engineering mode, setting the clock, possibly some climate control settings depending on model year, etc)

Has anyone tried the JL Audio CL441dsp CleanSweep? I had one in my previous ride paired with JBL Amp and 10" Sub. Worked great and think about installing in "14 E350

I've upgraded the whole sound system and dynamat the whole car on mine. Went with the audison prima 4.9 bit and ran 2 way full active on the front. Woofers are Boston Acoustic G5 on the trunk powered by a Xetec monoblock. Sounds way better than the stock HK in my opinion.

Piggybacking an amp and new speakers is one thing, but changing out the screen and stuff, Good luck with that. I'd bet theres a good chance the car won't even run without that stuff connected somewhere.
Nobody makes an adaptor kit for this car, clearly there is a reason.

I found this. Needs to be version 2 for the w212
https://avinusa.com/most-fiber-optic-amp-interface-for-e-class-cls-slk-s-class-mercedes-benz.html.
If this doesn't work like I'm hoping I plan on installing aftermarket system over top of the factory. I'll extended the wires for the factory screen into the glove box incase i need to make some changes I can just plug it in. The door speaker factory connections will either be left in the door un molested so that all the fiber optic will still be in continuous loop. Then wire the stereo and speakers as you would on a "normal" car.
