Impact of exhaust mod on extended warranaty
I am considering doing a resonator delete on my 2012 E63 (5.5L). I have one more year left on an extended warranty. In previous vehicles the minute a dealer would see aftermarket parts....they would say that they influenced the problem I was having and would not warranty the work. Should I expect the same doing a resonator delete? I'm in CA so not other tune or cat removal has been done.
Thanks for your advice.

They're always looking for any excuse to void your warranty so they don't have to pay for it, even when it has absolutely nothing to do with whatever problem you're trying to fix. I'd hold off on that unless you don't really care.

I did a muffler delete and just had warranty work done on my car... It depends on the dealer and if you have a history with them. In my case, I've had a few services done beforehand at this one. You can probably get away with it if you schmooze with your SA for a bit before handing over the keys. In my case, my SA thought my car looked awesome and asked about it, so that was my in lol

As mentioned, it depends on the dealer, almost 100%, on if you get your chops busted.
On a resonator delete, I can't see how any dealer would bust your chops; it's SO minor and almost exclusively for sound.
Famous last words though.

So true. I've had many warranty items covered after 'tasteful' mods. But, I've been using the same dealer for years and send my family there to buy their Benz's so, good relationship, no problems -- unless, the mod is obviously related to the problem -- then you're out of luck.

They have to prove that your mod is what caused the issues that you are claiming on warranty. Example, if you tell them you have warped rotors and they decide to deny it because you have an exhaust, take it up with MBUSA and fight it. You most likely will win. Now if you claim busted shocks but you have lowering springs they will tell you to kick rocks. Make sense? I own an Evo X aswell and they will try to void the warranty for anything including stickers...

We get cars with tunes/exhaust all the time at my dealership, unless it's related to the issue, doesn't matter at all. I have had people come in with tune/downpipe cars with a CEL and want me to fix it, in which case we tell them, we need to return the car to stock to diagnose it, and then it's up to them. But if the radio stops working, shouldn't matter at all if you have modded the engine.
