Gas pedal sensitivity

Is there a way to make the gas pedal less sensitive. The problem is that if I just touch the gas pedal the car wants to take off like a bat out of hell. I do not mind it but the wife says it throws her back out. I have already thought about trading the wife in but it really is not an option. Hopefully there is a solution other than getting rid of the wife.

Just blast the aoooga horn when taking off as a warning to the wife! You start in comfort mode, right? The car is in second gear and for me it feels like I'm driving an old VW beetle. I always put it in S for quicker starts, and I have a TTV8. LOL!
On second thought maybe it IS time for wife swap.

We don't even know what car has the issue.
My wife complains about the same in my Ford Truck and the same, changing wife is not an option.

Isn't there an ECU reset procedure? I think it's in the old threads. It basically relearns the driver's pattern but I guess if both of you drive the car, it's used to a heavy foot and fast starts. I always felt my was a little sluggish off the line, the reset helps a little but then it gets sluggish again.

Have had trans reset about 4 times . It solves the problem for about a month then starts up again. I just thought that maybe there was a way to get the gas pedal less sensitive

"Somebody" has to teach the transmission to act the way it does after resetting.
You did not confirm you use it in C mode? Mostly owners complain about car being sluggish on it, so your situation just is hard for us to imagine.

I have never used S mode only C. I have had this problem since I bought the car new. It currently has about 11,000 miles after almost 4 years. According to MB USA they are aware of the problem since 2014 but they have not found a solution yet. After warranty is up I am sure they will find a solution. Trans Jerks on start off then going into 2nd to 3rd and then from 5th to 6th. Over the years I have learned how to somewhat ease into the take off but some times it just jerks on take off. In 69 years this has to be the worst transmission I have had in any car I have ever owned. I have driven other 2014 E350 sport and they do not have the problem. I guess I just got lucky.

interesting, mine is usually more sensitive after the ECU reset and then gets less sensitive after a few months.

Just some out loud thinking on this. I wonder if there might be an issue related to the throttle position sensor (assuming it has what I'm used to seeing on a throttle body or inlet)? The TPS will provide voltage readings based on the throttle position. Although the overall readings may be within factory range and thus no trouble code, the initial transition from idle position (no pedal) to off idle (slight throttle) may be giving a reading to the ECU related to higher throttle position than actually is present. Meaning the ECU is thinking you've given it half throttle rather than just normal pedal. Don't go and buy a TPS on my crazy guess but the diagnostics should be able to show TPS readings as the pedal is pushed. A big initial jump or lag could cause the condition.

From my experience the issue is related to gasoline engines.
I had the same issue having "Few" W210 in the family.
The gasoline 4M was very hard to move smoothly even in C (W on older model) mode.
I had to work on "brushing" the pedal at first before I push it a bit harder.
The diesel never had an issue.
Same now with my 2014 diesel. It shows 1st gear on the cluster no matter what, yet the green light moving was on sluggish side. For time being I blame it on 4-banger till I switched to N mode.
4 cylinders diesel spinning good rubber on dry asphalt... :zoom:

I had that issue on my 2008 C300. Very sensitive and sometimes jerky acceleration, which the family didn't appreciate.
On my E400, it's smooth - until you punch it and then the complaints come again...

Thanks when I go to the dealer for service I will show them what you wrote. Hopefully that is the problem. Still have 2 years on warranty

There is post floating around on here form member raja777m, who had the same problem. I believe he said the issue was a transmission K pack or something.

Thanks contacted Raja and he sent me info on what was done. I will contact my dealer tomorrow.

This might help:

My father's 2012 Subaru Forester had the same issue a few months ago.
Throttle body clean fixed the problem.

dbldpr 07-12-2017 09:09 AM

Brought car in yesterday. They said they could not duplicate the problem. That is what I expected. Oh well I have until 2019 to get it fixed under warranty

KEY08 07-12-2017 10:45 AM

I'll bet if your wife was in the car with the tech, they would have been able to duplicate the issue!

I really do not think they even looked at it. Standard " We could not duplicate the problem" I will probably bring it to another dealership

KEY08 07-13-2017 09:40 AM

Yeah, you are more than likely correct.
