Almost bald tires in 8000 miles - warranty claim or not?
 

my CPO is only 8000 miles old since purchase. yet the rear tires are now close to bald. The longitudinal treads are still there but the horizontal treads are completely gone. Does this qualify as a warranty claim? (I have run flats with 240 tread rating)

8000 miles sounds low. Get your alignment and balancing checked. If they are off then you can create a claim against the dealer as they should have this checked at sale.

Why would your tires be under warranty on a used car? Did they guarantee they were new or a certain mileage usage?

Some state laws require minimum depth of tread that dealers are supposed to provide on used cars, but I believe it is pretty low (like 2/32"). A MB CPO car may be more like 5/32". If you bought the car with minimum tread depth, you are on your own. My dealer replaced all of my tires with new when I bought it as a CPO car. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I think my tires would be under warranty on a used car because the CPO process put in a set brand new tires. We even checked it with green color bands and little rubber nodules all over (when tires are brand new). That's why.

If they installed new tires for you, then for sure I would be back at the dealership complaining. They will probably complain to the tire manufacturer anyway and they will end up eating the cost. I'm sure they will work with you.

What's the warranty on the tire? Typically for RWD applications it's half the normal amount although 8k is pretty low. A treadwear rating of only 240 is pretty low though, maybe only 20k. Run flats are also horrible from a ride aspect.

that's why i'm hesitating. if they honored the warranty they would probably give me another set of run-flats........ should I just bite bullet and replace with new regular tires?

Do you have a donut spare? That's what some people do, get a donut spare and go with regular tires. The ride is better on regular tires, run flats are known for a harsh ride.

Which E comes with run-flats as OEM? Never heard of that...

The diesels because the ad-blue tank takes up the spare tire space.

CPO has a minimum of 8/32nds tread requirement. For them to be that worn is excessive, but driving and conditions play a part and 240 treadwear is a sticky tire, seems a bit excessive for a diesel E class but it's not gonna be a long lasting tire.

Not warranty though, not even on a new car will the tires be warranty. CPO covers less than new car warranty.

I would check with the tire manufacturer, IIRC they are covered.

I think the tire dealer won't care which replacement tires you choose. I know that mine didn't.
