intro, picture and service question.

hey fellas, 30 year old from Chicago, I bought my 2014 e350 about 3 months ago and I am in love with the car. I've had many makes and models (non mercedes) and I don't have to explain to you why this is my favorite so far. My warranty is ending soon so I took it to the dealership for some work. The car has 23,000 miles and the service rep told me i was.due for a major service....

brake flush $120
cabin air filter $90 (was going to do this myself)
coolant flush $200
fuel induction service $200

my question is, which are these are "necessary" soon and which ones can I hold off on. I know this dealership is a little pricey, I might look for quotes at some local non mercedes shops that specialize in German cars. hope to stick around for a while, cheers

Welcome. Brake flush sounds good. I would skip the others and you can do the cabin filter for peanuts.

Yes, Carmine Burdi at Burdi Motorrworks in Schiller Park. They have been servicing MB for decades. None better.

Wow, that's pretty bad, coolant isn't due til 15 years/150k. Fuel induction service is somewhat bogus also. Brake fluid is supposed to be every two years so if that hasn't been done recently, that would be a legit thing to do. If you got the VMI from the dealer it might have mentioned if it was done or not.

Key08 already answered your question about local independent service in Chicago area. You can actually bring the car to almost any dealership. A friend of mine brings her Mercedes to Jennings Chevrolet. It is about half the cost of a Mercedes Benz dealer doing the work.

I would recommend an indy shop. MBS Automotive is in Northbrook. I recently had major work performed there and the service is second to none. They also have pretty good pricing.

Indy is the way to go......I've been really lucky that I can go to the same one for almost 10 years. They know me, my cars....even my children as they're always in tow haha.........make good relations and only use the dealer if you must: for warranty work.

We had some work done here on our A6 and it was a lot cheaper than the dealer and they used original parts

thanks for the reply and welcomes guys. i didn't want to start another thread, so I'll ask here? how often do you guys change the oil for mixed city and highway driving. I'm used to swapping mobil 1 every 5k miles on my Ls1 engines, but I've read these cars requires oil changes every 10,000 miles?

I live in the northern suburbs (Lake County) without any hesitation I would recommend Axel's in Lake Bluff. They are the only ones that touch my car. Axel worked for Knauz BMW Mercedes for 30 years before he got into an argument with them and started his own shop. It's immaculate and he's about 50% of the costs of the dealer. http://www.axelsautomotive.com/

As long as it's a fleece filter, you should be fine. I've used Purolator which was just a rebranded Wix filter. Fram Ultra, Mann or OEM is fine, but probably overpriced.
