Going in for B Service tomorrow
 

Well that first 10,000 miles went by pretty quickly:zoom: She is going in for her B Service tomorrow at 8am. I requested a loaner since they say it will take 2.5-3 hrs. What can I expect? a C-300? or maybe an E-300? I also want them to check the brakes. With all the talk about warped rotors on the 2014 E550's and only 30,000 miles on the car I would like it looked at and resolved now. I get a slight pulsing/shaking steering wheel feeling when I come off the highway onto an exit ramp. Also when going highway speeds, there is an annoying "whistling" sound that seems to be coming from the driver's side mirror area but I am not certain. 99.9% of the time I have the radio on and can't hear it, but if I mute the radio to take a phone call it is pretty annoying. Also will they wash and detail the car? Mine is black so putting it through a car wash is a no no and I will insist it be hand washed. After all this is a Mercedes...."The best or nothing" right?

I will let you know how it goes and my impressions of the loaner vehicle.

My 2014 has that whistle as well. I believe it is the wiper arm. Push down on it and see if that helps. The arm parks too high up on the windshield and catches air.

I believe that the B service includes the brake flush so they should be looking at your brakes without being asked

So the B service is complete and here is my break down. When I got to the dealer the couple in front of me had an E350 in for service and when they asked about a loaner, the service guy said they typically loan C300's. I was pleasantly surprised when I was given a 2017 E300 with just over 1000 miles on it. Lunar Blue with chestnut brown and black interior. Like the lunar blue but not the interior color. My impressions of this car are mixed. Not a big fan of the sculpted, smooth exterior. I like the boxy look of my 2014, interior wise I like the large screen in the center console, but not the gauge cluster. It seems like it is tilted downward facing. My 2014 the gauges are pointed right at your face. I really like the variety of interior ambient lighting colors. Didn't see any difference in the Burmeister sound system as compared to my HK. Power was way off. Turbo 4 cylinder? Keep that for the Subaru guys, put the V-6 back in. Back up camera was vastly better, image was almost high definition plus the front and rear proximity displays are now a top down view with indicators shown on the screen near the back up view. The center controller with the touch pad took some getting used to, but I like it slightly better than mine. Same goes for the touch pads in the steering wheel. Mixed feelings but I could get use to them. Overall the interior was more luxury focused, where I feel my 2014 is more sporty and down to business. The "gliding" feature on the highway also took some getting use to, not sure if I like it or not. Again, this would be a perfect luxury highway cruiser. But I like the twisty, back mountain roads where you can let the car get a workout. Would I buy a E300? If I never drove an E550, yeah probably. But now that I have driven the 550 I would probably have to go for the E400.

Now about my B service, everything check out perfect. The service tech told me the front pads were changed when the car was CPO'd back with 21,000 miles on it. He said the warped rotors are not covered under warranty and would be $1,000 to fix or I could live with the slight vibration I feel when pulling off the highway. I will discuss this with the service manager when I go back for the next week for a service bulletin. Apparently the whistling noise I hear is attributed to something with the front air dam and the way air moves through the car under the hood. This will require them to take my front bumper/air dam off and add some weatherstripping. So in two weeks it goes back in for a full day and I will talk with the service manager about the rotors. I told the service guy I find it kind of hard to believe that rotors on a $79,000 car are not covered under warranty. The car only has 30,000 miles on it. 130,000 miles I could understand.

Rotors are a wear item, whether in a Hyundai or a Mercedes, or any other car. Warranties don't cover wear items; warranties cover defects.

I would not expect rotors to warp after 30,000 miles. I noticed it when there was about 25,000 on the car but waited for this B service to bring it up. I replaced the pads and rotors on my 2007 Elantra with Autozone brand stuff and never had a problem. The car went 200,000 miles without incident. Now the rotors on my e class are drilled which should in fact aid in cooling and like I said I would not expect this on an E class. There have been other posts I have seen (need to look them up) about warped rotors on 2014 e550's that may offer some insight.

Normally brake components are warranted for 1-year/12,000 miles whichever comes first. However, in your case (e550 4matic - 212.091) MBUSA released 2 bulletins covering defective front & rear brake discs under factory warranty - see attachments. Loaners
 

I usually get a C class loaner, but have gotten an E occasionally. I think one factor is the cars the dealership owner purchases to use for loaners.
One benefit of getting a C is that it reinforces my decision to get an E.
Another factor is that I will keep the car all day (6 hours) and maybe a couple depending on what they are doing.
One thing to remember is YOU are paying for the loaner. Either in the purchase price of the vehicle or the service costs. Of course this is spread out across many customers.

Loaner fleets are determined by each dealer. The dealer I most frequently go to used to have a pretty diverse fleet between C, E, GLK, ML, GL.

Last year they went to a more plain fleet of base model CLA/GLA and C class.

I'm pretty happy getting any car as a loaner as long as it works properly.

konigstiger, are those actual MB service bulletins? I opened the PDF's and it doesn't say MB anywhere on them. Perhaps it's just because I am looking at them on my iPhone. Let me know. My service appointment is on Sept 13th.

The E400 is a coupe or a wagon, not a sedan. You'll need to get an E43 or E63 S to avoid the E300 sedan.
