2011 E350 - Popping noise from under the engine when licking the car

On my 2011 E350, whenever I lock the car (using key or door handle) a loud popping noise is heard from under the engine side. Any idea of what that might be. Thanks

What part of the car are you licking?

ahalimah 10-01-2017 08:28 PM

Funny. Locking. now, do you have a helpful answer?

Is your car set to chirp or honk when you lock it? My 2010 chirped and my 2014 uses the horn, so I don't know what yours may be set at. Maybe the relay is not functioning properly and producing an electrical pop.

Are you hearing the solenoid that is actuating the locks?

ahalimah 10-01-2017 08:40 PM

I don't think it is the solenoid, since I just started hearing the noise recently.
And I am not sure of what it is set for acknowledgement upon locking - I have to check that tomorrow. Now that I think about it, it started after I got back from the dealer a couple of months ago... I wonder if they changed any settings .... will look into it. Thanks for all the help

Yeah, they may have changed the setting on you and it's worth at least switching it off or on depending on where it is currently set just to see if that removes the noise.

OK, I checked and the acoustic feedback is enabled on locking the car. So I disabled that and the noise is GONE !!! thanks for the great advice. (by the way the noise was not a chirp or horn, it must be the sound of faulty relay or something) - I have to let the dealer know not to mess with my settings. Thanks all. Good night
