Extended Warranty Quote Feedback and Advise

I have obtained a quote from the dealer I purchased my 2013 E350 wagon from in March 2014 (new). It currently has just under 11,000 miles and the factory warranty will expire in March 2018. I obtained a quote to extend it up to 6 years (from the date of purchase) and up to 60,000 miles. The quote was originally ~$4,200 and they finally gave me a reduced price of $3,845. Is this fair? Seems high to me. Is there other dealers known to provide better pricing?

Thanks.

Seems high, I'd suggest some searching on here, as there is a lot of info on this topic..good luck

That seems really high. I also have a 2013 E350 Wagon, I got the 7 year 75k mile extended warranty and paid roughly $2100 for it. I bought it from one of the dealers listed in the extended warranty discussion forum. The dealer I bought my car from wanted almost $4k for the same warranty. Look in the extended warranty forum, plenty of dealers in there that gives good discounts on extended warranty plans.

Seems high to me too.
My ELW was about $3K to go 7yr/100k total. Bought while car was still in original factory warranty.
As mentioned you need to look in the Warranty forum in this website.
I have used the ELW with zero problems, included a loaner during repairs as well.

Yes, it seems high and it seems to be a 3rd party warranty since it goes out 6 years from purchase. You should check at the MB ELW as others have described as it would be better coverage than a 3rd party warranty. The MB ELW can tack on up to 3 years from the end of the factory warranty or up to a certain mileage mark (which may not be an issue for you). It's the closest thing to the factory warranty.

I think I paid between 2100 and 2500 for the extra two years on my 2010 E class but that was two years ago. I bought it just before the original 4 year warranty expired. I used it a few times with absolutely no hassles. I am sure you can find a better deal than what you were quoted because I just bought two years factory extended warranty on my 2015 S class for about the price you were quoted. In the case of my S-Class, I bought it “up front” when I made the CPO purchase so perhaps they gave me a slightly better deal for that reason. I would shop around.

Come to think of it, it must have been three years of extended warranty because I bought the car in September of 2010 and the warranty just expired this past September.

With such low mileage, I'd highly doubt that you will have nearly $4k in covered failures within any warranty period. The house always wins. I never purchase extended warranty. If you have the airmatic suspension, then it may be an exception, but even in that case it would be tough to hit the number in repair costs.

I was quoted around the same for only 2 years when I bought my E550 at 67K miles. Now 2 years later and 81K miles no issues whatsoever, only brakes, tires, and oil.

I have recently (a month ago) paid $2450 for 3y/60000 on my 2014 E350 through dealer.

Received a quote for $2028 for the 7 year / 75k. Now, my question is, with the vehicle only have around 11k miles currently and a projection of adding another 24k in the next 3 years (max) which would put the total mileage at around 35k (prob will have less) when the extended warranty would expire, do you guys feel the warranty makes sense to buy for such a low mileage car?

Thanks.

Probably not unless you're planning on selling the car before the 3 years is up. Then it's a good selling point if there's a few month lefts on the warranty so the next buyer has some peace of mind. I've got over 100k on mine and it looks like the car just had basic maintenance by the previous owner and the major item like faded wood wouldn't have been covered by an extended warranty anyway.

Well - I just spent the last 3 weeks deciding on whether to purchase and extended service contract or not. Some have been great to have, others I have never used. One good note that I read - was add also how much is peace of mind. This was part of the percentage that determined my final decision...
Noting I just purchased a 2011 E550 - 4matic - Diamond White with Grey leather...Loaded - as in everything - Distronics Pano, lane and nightvision! - with 97K miles on it. But sold\maintained at the same dealer I had already been going to.
I came down to 2 choices in my mind
First choice was - 5 year 60K miles - additional - for $5700 - which covered - most major items, and then some - (its all about the details - but was very extensive coverage)
Second choice was a 3 year 36K miles additional - for $4800 - which was a "bumper to bumper" or exclusionary - minus the usual wear items...
What made my final choice - I was t at the dealer getting my Service B - thinking - I'd just rather have no surprises in the next 3 years
I ended up going with the 3yr - because it covered everything - and know that modules or airmatic can get very expensive very fast. - and while I did toss the idea of just setting aside the $5K - which is a lot of repairs - anyone who has airmatic knows - that it can be a 3K repair really fast.
I think if you search around you can easily find a way better contract for much cheaper - just keep shopping...

Also find out what is covered and not...
you really have to read the contact - in detail even a few times. to make sure it covers what you want it to.

Cheers
JPC

Not sure I would be as motivated on a low mileage car that you don't plan on driving a lot over the next 3 years. You may just want to wait until the original warranty expires as you until then to decide on the MB ELW. Use that time to see if any unexpected repairs come up. You'll have a better feel for it then and how long you plan to keep the car.

Completely agree with this approach.

Thank you for the information. I am shopping for a similar warranty. Could you please let me know the dealer from whom you purchased the extended warranty?
