Looking to buy 2014 2015 E350

If anyone can shed some light on this id greatly apreciate it. Im looking to buy a 2014 or 2015 E 350. Are there any serious issues with these cars that i should be aware of. I heard of the collision assist issues where the car actually slows down rapidly while going down the road. Is this true and is there a fix for it. What about the Keyless go? Also any other things to be aware of on these models,,Thanks in advance

2014 E550-sold 😩
Please search the site. These are great cars and great value used. I have no idea what you are talking about in terms of the car shutting itself off. Where the heck did you hear that one? On the Bimmer boards?

No im not a bimmer guy. I have a older clk320 and im looking to update to a 2014 or 15. I read that in either this forum or that other benz forum that the collision assist can be troublesome and if it fails on the interstate the car can actually go from 80 mph down to 20 pretty quick....Sorry if i misled i just edited my first post

I own a 2014 e350 and this is the first I have heard of trouble with collision assist. Just do not buy one with that feature if you are worried. There are plenty out there

These are C series cars. Did you find a post for the E series car? It may be only on C series and you do not need to worry since you are looking for an E series car.

I like my 2014 very much. Better tires (no run flats) and a spare. Bullet proof V-6 and no turbo - so engine bay runs cooler. Would not trade even for a 2015.
YMMV.

I thank you for that feedback. Are all 2015 cars turbos and have run flats?. I prefer NON Turbo. Also im trying to decide between the sport or luxury model. Any differences there besides cosmetics,,Thanks

Just my opinion. The Lux version of the 2014 E Class is a noticeably softer ride and doesn't handle as well as the Sport version so, we preferred the Sport for the less "boaty" feel. As a side note, in the 2014 C300 V-6 - also a great car - the Sport version was too harsh for us, so we sold it and bought the Lux - and liked it very much.

My advice is to try them both.

Well i did. And i agree cause before i left my home in florida i test drove a 2016 c250 sport and i wasnt impressed with the ride. It did feel harsh to me. I was surprised as i thought the ride would be better. Up here in pittsburgh i test drove a 2016 e350 sport and i liked it. It was a softer somewhat ride and handled great. Just a better feel. I however have not driven a e350 lux model tho so i was wandering what that ride is like. I forgot about that boaty feeling some cars have. Good way to put it. If i did buy a c300 it would be the 2014 year cause of the gps is still built into the dash. I think the gps screen sticking up out of the dash in newer models looks obstructive and stupid. Just my opinion

Just my personal opinion, but, I believe that 2014 Mercedes - either C or E class - are great cars.

If you want something really special, hold out for a 2014 with leather interior. Very, very hard to find with low mileage

Forgot to mention, I believe that you need to find one - even if it costs a bit more - that has at least 1 year of Mercedes warranty on it. That means a CPO car or a very late production date.

Good luck.

In general I don't think run flats happened til 2017 when they went to a turbo. E350's up to 2016 were just regular 3.5L V6 engines. As for deciding, usually it's the sport model if you want a car with a lot of options. Most luxury models I see don't have that many options so although I'd prefer a softer ride, I ended up with 2 sport models.

Try reading the brochures and checking to see what options came with the car.

Well, yes, the E350's are normally aspirated, but there IS the E400 variant ;-). The E400 looks just like the E350, but being a twin-turbo V6, is has about 10% more horsepower, and Gobs more torque. This combination makes it pull at low RPM's like a diesel, but run like crazy at higher RPM's. Car and Driver timed the E400 4Matic sedan at 5.0 seconds, 0-60 mph. Same car, more fun!

Well yeah, the E400 is nice too, but they only made them for 2 years and they killed them for 2017, at least for the sedans. They're supposed to be back for 2018, but still aren't out yet. They basically replaced the E550 with the E400 as 2014 was the last year for the E550 and 2015/2016 had the E400. Don't really see too many used ones for sale though.

It all depends on what you're looking for. No real change from 2014 to 2015 E350's, except for maybe the power folding mirrors.
I would get the Sport model, with leather and fully loaded; Sport looks more visually appealing and fresher, IMO.

2014 E350 4-matic Sport & 2020 GLS450
I’ve had my 2014 since July, CPO’d lease return with 22k miles. I’m up to 28k now. It’s the sport version, pano roof, LED light package, non-leather, Harmon karmon stereo, nav. Doesn’t have distance pace cruise control or blind spot monitoring.

Only issue that was about to be a real deal killer for me was seat comfort. But if you search on this sub forum (probably a few pages back by now) for my thread called “Seat Pain”, you’ll find a way to fix it if it applies to you. After that fix, it has been a pleasure to drive! Easily one of the most enjoyable highway cruising cars I have yet to own (44 years old, car nut). After the seat comfort fix, it’s easily one of the most comfortable cars I’ve ever owned as well. I wish I could spend more time in it. My commute (depending on traffic) ranges from 30 minutes to an hour each way. Always enjoyable time spent being in the drivers seat of this Benz. Mine is the 350 4matic. Has a deceptive amount of power, more than enough and given the way the gearing ratios are lined up for 1-3, incredibly fast, more than you would think (so be careful or you’ll hit something!)

I have the sport model. I also have a MK7 GTI as my weekend toy. Honestly, the handling of this Mercedes is astonishingly good. Far more than one would expect. It stays so flat when taking a turn at speed, it’s amazing. There is a swooping on-ramp that goes 270 degrees around that I take every morning. It’s like a slingshot into a toll road that hauls butt. In the GTI, around 50mph is about the max comfort before you start to feel like you’re getting close. But surprisingly, in this Benz, it’s more like 60mph before you start to get nervous. It’s just soooo flat, but not jarring when cruising. Maybe I’ve been conditioned by the VW for the past couple of years, but I don’t find the ride quality of the sport model of this Benz to be harsh at all. I find it to be about perfect. Soft cruiser when needed, but cloverleaf hugger when wanted.

I had the new E300 as a loaner from the dealership for a week recently. In my opinion, this old version of the E that we have now, is the last of the “meaty” Mercedes Benz for the E series. It feels heavier, rides heavier, and acts like what a Mercedes Benz should act in my opinion. The new one, just feels like a comp to any other $60,000 car out there. It’s light, very snug, twitchy steering that constantly needs to be corrected when cruising, and rides like a basic sedan now. In my opinion, that special “Benz” feeling, isn’t there anymore with the new version. Just another mass-produced car looking for better gas mileage. I damn near gave myself a couple of concussions getting in/out too. Not the case with my 2014.

Almost forgot, and just my opinion here, but the LED light package, is an absolute must have item. These headlights are by far the best I have ever witnessed. The color is perfect, they move with the steering wheel, the automatic high beam feature is flawlessly magical, and when they’re on at night, it makes the car look menacing. I’ve also noticed folks in the fast lane tend to get over sooner when I’m in this car. Not so much when in my VW (which also has their version of the upgraded LED lights), and never when in the family booger bucket (2013 Toyota Highlander). I love the panoramic roof mine has too, but I think I’m in the minority on that one. The heated seats are excellent as well.

But the lights. Oh man. That’s my #1 favorite option on my car. I’ll never buy a car without upgraded lights again. Even if it’s a few thousand more, I’ll splurg for them.

^ agree on the full LED package. Also, when in automatic High Beam mode, they illuminate the road like you are landing a wide body jet.

How can i tell if a car has the LED package. Is there a way to tell if the car has the LED package by just looking at the headlights?

Absolutely; it's not like the W210 and W211 where it was much harder to discern halogen vs. xenon; the facelift E's light options are very distinguishable:

Left is non-LED (only low beam LED); right is full LED Lighting package (high and lowbeam, plus amazing LED graphics).
Full LED Lighting package is a must-have and makes a world of a difference, IMO. See the huge contrast?

It will be tough to find one with leather and the other options you want. I searched the entire west coast in order to find the right color and packages. Finally found one and flew there to get it.

Thanks for posting those pictures of the headlights that was very helpful. I found a car but it has led lights at the bottom of the headlight so apparently it doesn't have the full LED package. The car seems to be loaded up otherwise but I would really like to have that led package so I'm going to hold off. I'm leaning towards the sport model car. The main things I want is a white car with keyless go and the LED package low mileage. If there's something else that is a must have like the LED package on these cars please let me know. I'm not really in any Rush and I'm willing to fly anywhere on the East Coast
