E350 4MATIC ESTATE (S212) lowering help!

Hey guys,

I have a 2012 E350 4MATIC wagon and want to lower the car a little.

I found a set of H&R springs to lower the car. It seems they only come for the front (2) springs....as the rear will lower itself once it recognizes the lowered front!?!?

Some please confirm that is the case.

Also, if anyone has this exact setup, maybe you can show me some pictures of the finished lowered car?

thanks!

Steve

Hi, as far as I know and can help, all the S212 (w212 Kombi) have the airmatic rear suspension, which means you will be able only to buy the front "normal" lower Springs.
As an extra, we can also have the front airmatic suspension.
The air suspension have a feature that force the car to self leveling every time the engine starts, so in theory if you lower the front, the rear will adjust to the front weight.
If the rear doesn't lower the same amount, you can always check for "Airmatic lowering links" for the rear.

In my case I have the front and rear airmatic suspension, so I can lower or raise the car (confort, or sport setting):

I hope it helps.

I would like to know if this is true as well.

SteveS212, have you lowered your wagon already? I just picked one up and would like confirmation as well. I looked today, springs up front and air suspension for the rear. Curious how to lower the rears. Thanks

No, never ended up doing it. I felt that it was more trouble than it's worth. If I were to lower the car, it'll have to be coilovers for all 4 corners. I don't want to mess with an expensive part by having springs in the front and stock pieces in the rear.

Hey y'all! I just bought a 2012 s212 and I want to trash the rear airmatic suspension. I can't find any type of kit anywhere to do that...
Can anyone help out?

Hi,
I'm in the same boat with my s212. Did you get anywhere with this?

Am I the only one wondering why anyone would want to lower a wagon? People buy the wagon (any wagon) for the extra load carrying capacity, and they are designed that way. (Is that why it has Airmatic on the rear wheels?) So, lowering makes no sense to me, fwiw.

Sure, that's how they were designed... but not how people necessarily use them. Lowering cars, putting bigger wheels, added negative camber, roof racks that never get used... not just wagons.

Don't tell me people buy a E63 wagon because of the load-carrying capacity... I use my old E320 wagon like a truck, towing, hauling material inside, etc... I won't be using our E350 wagon like that anytime soon. Most don't use the third row, the wagon is just a gloried sedan with a bigger "trunk".

I'm interested in replacing the air springs with coil springs (S212). Conversion kits are available for S211, but there doesn't seem to be any for the S212.

So, after all my research...the only option I found was to buy H&R lowering springs for the front that drop the car 1.4"....and buying lowering links for the rear.

The option I found was from Airmatic Lowering Links from these guys ---> https://www.airmatic-lowering-links.co.uk/

Car will look like this afterwards:

Steve,

I currently have the H&R springs up front on my wagon, and a pair of the Ghost Links adjustable lowering links in the rear of my 2016 wagon, photo below for reference. Mine came with the sport suspension, and to be honest I am not totally happy with the ride now. I have owned many lowered vehicles over the years and this one disappoints me. There is an odd float going over speed bumps, and it is not the quality I would hope for. I took a leap of faith (and an amazing discount) and ordered a KW Suspension V3 coilover setup for a 4matic sedan https://www.kwsuspensions.com/produc...-35225069.html , and after speaking with KW, I am 99% sure it will work. I will not be able to use the rear springs, as I have airmatic, but based on my research everything else "should" work. Being that they are adjustable for rebound and compression, I hope to be able to dial in the ride to something more suitable (firm is fine with me as long as it is not bouncy). They should be here in 3-4 weeks, and I will update everyone on fitment and compatibility.

Hey Brentif,

How'd you go with the wagon suspension? Did you lower it using the links or go 4 X Coilovers instead?

Looking to lower my 2014 S212 at least 1"+ and I've been told you can code the self leveling system to think lower is now level instead of using links etc.

Anyone been able to try this method?

Cheers!

Car is doing great! Currently has the KW V3 coilovers up front. The rear is still on the ghost links and stock shocks. been waiting eight months for Bilstein B8s for the rear, as the KW sedan rear shocks were too long for my wagon.

Looks great, especially with no badges I am thinking about doing that on mine now.

Update please, did the Bilstein’s work out?

Bilsteins have arrived, but I havent had the chance to install them yet. Hopefully next week I can get a couple hours set aside to get that done.

That's good , looking forward to hearing your feedback . I had bought Eibach but I have not installed them yet
