Remove Badge

I am interested in removing the blue efficiency badge from the front fenders. How are these attached and how to remove?

Thanks for the reply. So they are attached with double sided tape? Did they leave any residue? Did you leave the blue efficiency badges off or replace with something else?

yes double tape. Usually no residue but I always rub the area with polish and it looks fine.

I used a heat gun + fishing string then I used a plastic scrap to remove excess tape, then polished + waxed.

Good decision! I was tired of people asking if my car was a diesel... BlueEfficiency be gone.

All good info already posted here. Yes, they come right off.

Frankly my Bluetec come with no BT badge. Not even on trunk lid.
I would not mind flash all those Corvette and Dodge Charger drivers that what they are smelling is coming from 4-cylinder diesel
Even if I don't give them much time to smell it.

I am definitely going to remove the blue efficiency badges. I'm thinking of adding the V8 BITURBO emblem.

I second upward comments. LIGHTLY heat, not too much, some people burn their clear coat...be careful. Don't heat hotter than what is comfortable for your bare hand to touch. Slide some fishing line behind the emblem/s and pull through. I find it's best to try to stay closer to the paint than the emblem, removes more of the adhesive. Goo Gone or Goof Off, any good brand swirl remover cut/polish paste, and those Turtle Wax type bug remover products all work well. Just get it off and clean the residues well...then wax where you did it.

I didn't use any heat to remove mine. Just dental floss, and then some WD40 to remove any residue. Followed with clay bar and some polish to clean it up. I also removed the Chrome door handle inserts this way.

My E550 dons the V8 BITURBO emblems.

As with some of you, I removed the "Blue Efficiency" badges and replaced them with "V8 Biturbo" badges

Much better

So now, when 4-banger wagon will pass you on the road, they will laugh that you spend all the money on the car and had not much left for driving lessons

Funny. When you buy a new AMG you get a free driving lesson at the AMG Driving Academy. My wife and I got our education at Lagua Seca. Here are our autocross results I was in the 73 car with the fastest lap time

If 4 banger wagon wants to race my wagon . . . well half the time I'd school them, the other half I'd LMFAO and keep on my merry way.

We are not talking about REAL AMGs here.
There are several ways to race. You might beat my 4-banger on the first mile, but you will never catch up with me after 2nd filling up.
When Hummers got "civilized" the Baja racers took the high-power gasoline models to the race. Even they were really amazing on first few miles - they did not make it to refiling stations.

^^^^ Fixed your post, and W212 AMGs are more germane to discussion here than Baja racers. LOL

In all seriousness I get it. I owned an E320 CDI from 2006 till 2014, and before that a Jetta TDI. I've done the diesel thing: kept paper logs of my MPG every time I filled up, been the evangelical diesel owner. My turbo diesel inline 6 had torque galore, and got excellent mileage (I'd gotten ~37MPG on long haul trips, but usually was around 30 due to my lead foot and that addictive torque). All of my diesels had a larger range than my bladder. Reformulation of Diesel fuel to become ULSD cost me ~10% in MPG and fuel cost increased relative to gas as well. Newer Diesel E's required Ad-blue and lost the spare tire. Not that any of that really factored in my switch to the blown-V8 stable of W212s I have. It was the power. The M278 E550 isn't an AMG, but that V8-BITURBO packs a serious punch in HP and TQ; delivered in a silky smooth package.

Coming from diesel family you have to know that average 6 cylinder diesel will beat 8 cylinder gasoline engine (in the same car) on 60-80 mph acceleration.
Actually my 4-cylinder diesel is not that much behind 320 BT, so would be interesting to find statistics.
That would not matter when you race on empty roads, but makes heck of the difference in real life.
Than frequently driving 550 miles between San Francisco and Las Vegas, I value highly that I don't have to fill up unless I choose to.
I train my family to make 8 hr trip with 1 pee stop.

So I finally got around to removing my Blue Efficiency badges. It appears they are attached with a couple of barrel clips. So much for the V8 biturbo badges. Any chance the 2012 E550 Cab used barrel clips instead of double sided tape?

Interesting. Maybe it’s because this gen E isn’t built completely off the W212 platform? Anyone?

OK, finally got them off. They WERE attached with glue. Rather than use a heat gun, I poured hot tap water over the badge for about a minute and then used dental floss to work my way behind the badge. Most of the adhesive came off with the badges, but a bit remained. I'm trying to remove this with Goo Gone, but it is proving difficult. I'm unsure how long to leave the Goo Gone on the car. I am up to about 20 minutes now and I still have residue. Ideas?

Don't leave aggressive chemicals on paint for long, or you will have some damage.
Lot of such glue will come-off with finger rubbing. Some heat and some Windex will help.

It's a no on the Goo Gone and Windex. Tomorrow I will try the hot tap water again. Perhaps I can soften it up to the point I can rub it off with my finger.
