Wow! How much less Geico is than State Farm.

First post. First MB, a 2013 E350 CPO.

I've had all my autos, four currently, with State Farm for 45 years in addition to my home. So, I robotically put the Merc with them also. For 100/300/50 liability, same limits for uninsured motorist, 500 deductible/0 glass comprehensive and 500 deductible collision, the yearly premium after their supposed shuffling of discounts was $1,358. I didn't like this, so for the first time ever I shopped for other insurance online.

Geico gave me the same coverage for $620 a year. I was literally stunned, and thought it was a gimmick. It isn't. A no-brainer. I raised my liability and uninsured motorist coverage to 250/500/50 for another $20 per year.

Geico's multiple car discounts also seem very aggressive, so I foresee moving my other cars from State Farm is There. Maybe the home, too.

Having shopped on and off for a Mercedes for a year and negotiating hard, I didn't apply any diligence at first to the insurance. So, some obvious advice: Shop for insurance.

Keep your eye on your premiums with Geico. I switched back to Allstate for home and auto from Geico and I pay just over $1,800 a year for 250/500 low deductible. 3 cars 2014 E550, 2008 Odyssey, 2017 GT350. All is not what it may seem to be, as they keep jacking your rates once on board. Congrats on the new ride and let's see some photos of this guy.

Geico also gave me best quote for Las Vegas insurance, when AAA that I used in California trippled my premium for Vegas location.
It is always worth shopping around for insurance, but having full coverage, read the company reviews.
Often the cheap insurance will give you hard time when you have a claim.
On side note, I always buy max deductible. We don't make accidents and that saves us pretty hefty amount.

^^ true. Especially about the reviews on performance and higher deductibles. I compare but have still found State Farm to be competitive in our case.
On a side note my 2 collector type vehicles are insured w Hagerty. Insurance for appraised replacement value, full coverage and towing for both vehicles less than 400 / year. It helps being older lol.

Congrats on the new Merc.

Yeah, I switched to them over 10 years and haven't looked back. Their rates put other so-called "lowest rate" insurance companies to shame.
Glad more people are happy with their low rates. Never had an issue with insurance claims either. They even fought on my behalf when an idiot driver rear-ended me and totaled my car.

Howcome that was your behalf?
Having full insurance you'd get paid this way, or the other.
They fought for their bussines to not pay.

being a former Geico CUSTOMER and I went back to them to check my rates and they are a no-brainer.

28 yes old, 7 years of driving exp. in USA, 2014 E350 4Matic at ~600USD per 6 months.
Liab: 50k/100k
uninsured motor: 50k/100k
PDL: 50k
UMD: 50k

My previous 2008 Yamaha FZ6 (600cc) was 600$ per year via AAA through progressive.
All in Charlotte, NC.

No, I'm not affiliated with Geico. I'm just posting information that surprised me about an aspect of my MB buying process and that I thought would be of interest to other members, current and future. I've actually done a couple of hours of research on Geico and don't see any real evidence that they use teaser rates. They seem to raise them for the same reasons all insurance companies do: changes in the customer's risk profile, changes in the geographic pool risk profile, and increases due do inflation. Many people seem to get the best rates from one insurance company; others, with a different company. Consumer Reports and other neutral authorities suggest getting requotes every two or three years from different companies if you want to keep getting the best rates for your profiles.

As to the car, it's white, pano, premium 2 package, sport package, keyless, handsfree, split folding rear seats, lighting package, illuminated door sills, comfort box, rear spoiler. No sensors, which I think are mainly techno-gimmicks I would never use and that are just something expensive to break. The only slightly unusual aspect of the car is the interior, which is special order chestnut brown leather with black ash trim. That wasn't my first choice, but semi-beggars have to be semi-choosers and the interior has actually grown on me. I'll try adding pictures right below.

My 2010 E550 4M was white with a chestnut leather interior . I really liked that combo, actually and miss it. Your driver's seat bolster is pretty well worn, which is not typical of the leather seats in most Mercedes. I assume since it is a CPO the mileage is not high.

You mean the left vertical bolster? I think that's mainly just the lighting, but I'll look closer when I take delivery in a few days. The car was not originally CPO, but I negotiated for it after the dealer agreed to put in all new brakes and rotors, recondition all four wheels, and do some other work to bring it up to CPO standard. 45,000 miles. There aren't many 2013 CPO's around. These are all rather poor dealer photos in poor or harsh lighting.





Back to Geico, be aware that you will be paying more for the quoted semi-annual premium if you choose to pay on any of their installment options, because the installment payments all include hidden fees.

Monthly premiums are only part of determining the best insurance carrier. The primary concern for me is a reasonable rate and service.

Here is my old E550 brown leather interior (code 264A). I always thought this was chestnut, but it looks considerably lighter than yours. Perhaps mine was just brown and not chestnut. Maybe yours is a Designo color chestnut.
The bolster wear I was referring to is your driver's outside bolster. The one that all cars suffer the most wear from as the driver squeezes in and out of the car.

My leather code is 254A, chestnut brown. The MSRP shows it cost $1,620 plus a $250 special order (SPC) code.

Everything is done by phone and computer, and at this stage of my life I'm interested in saving every dollar possible in rates.

I've now fiddled with Geico's application parameters several times, and it appears I can insure three cars under Geico for about the same premium that State Farm quoted me just for the E350 alone. I did read somewhere that Geico's rates are perhaps best for older people with excellent driving records and high credit ratings. I'm not sure that's true, but it does describe my situation.

I've had them for a few years and when I shopped around, they were the cheapest around. I think only esurance was cheaper, but looking at their rates, they were teaser rates where after the first year, a discount goes away and then it ends up being more than Geico so I didn't want to bother switching back and forth just to save $50. They've been pretty good on the phone, but the only negative lately is that I just had a windshield replaced and it's making noise. Got to take it back to safelite. They wouldn't let me go to the dealer, they said I'd have to pay the difference even though I have 0 deductible on glass. Wouldn't let me get OEM glass either. I guess that's how they keep premiums low.

Funny, my parents and a few of my friends are the same way. I have tried to get them to switch to GEICO, to no avail. They are loyal to their high-rate carriers.

I agree, well at least on one parameter (high credit rating). For me, I have a lead foot, so my record isn't as spotless; and I am not older---so go figure.

Wow, that's interesting...every windshield I have had replaced on my BMWs and Mercedes has been OEM. GEICO told me that that's what they have to use.
Guess it varies by state. Maybe it helps that I live where their headquarters are. :-)

Changing insurance is a hassle. Even now they know more about you, than you do.
You enter your DL number and they already know what cars you own
So I filled up one of those net request for quote few days ago. Now I am getting about 4 junk letters daily on top of phone calls with quotes.
So I don't blame when somebody is not ready to go for such changes.
I have retired friend, who travels a lot and is spending several months a year in Las Vegas, using different friends for staying. Then he goes to Europe for couple of months.
He pays about $3000/ month for house he rents in Silicon Valley.
All friends are telling him that he can rent much nicer house in Las Vegas for 1/3 of that quote, but he "can't make his mind"
I concluded that having more money that he is spending - he is just too lazy to make the move.

This was for my 2008. They said the car was too old. I didn't really push the issue, but I probably could have called the dealer and seen what they would have done. The company that Geico had me go to wasn't that good either, it makes noise, gotta go back and see what happens. Probably the adhesive didn't cure properly, it was below freezing when I did it. Waiting for better weather before I go back.

Geico does use an extensive amount of aftermarket/used if available, then oem if not available. Statefarm I believe only uses used, then oem if not available. It doesn't really matter for us though because there aren't going to be aftermarket items like bumpers or headlamps available for an E.

Each insurance company has their own guidelines on how glass is going to be replaced. They will obviously shy away from dealers because they charge what like $225/hour? On top of that Mercedes doesn't even make their own glass, they have a vendor sell glass to them then stamp it. If a/m glass is not available then they okay the oem glass. If a glass company cant install that oem glass, then dealer can do it. It's a pain but insurance is all about saving money on each claim while also meeting department of insurance guidelines.

I switched to Amerprise through Costco about a year ago. Progressive wanted over $500 for a six moth policy, Geico was $60 less, and Amerprise came in at $338! It pays to shop around. YMMV
