Will - it - rub?

Hey there,

So I recently got off these terrible 245/45s on 19s all around my car that were causing all sorts of rubbing and fending hitting issues.

I upgraded to a staggered set with 245/35 (8.5) in the front and 285/30(EDITED) (9.5) 19 inch wheels in the back. The tire suggestion came from the wheel guy, because the circumference is closer because I have a 4matic.

Using a tire calculator, I noticed these tires are almost an inch and a half shorter than the previous set - so I'm hoping I won't have such disastrous rubbing issues. Anyone know for sure?

I assume you are on a different wheel now after you met the pothole from H___-? I am using a 245/35-19 on the front. It is mounted on a 19 x 9" wheel with an ET38 offset. You should have no issue with rubbing up front. As you say it is considerably smaller in diameter than the 245/45. I am using a 285/30-19 in the rear as I also have 4Matic. My difference front to rear is .1%. Your difference from front to rear with the 285/35 is 4.3%. That may be enough to trigger your traction control, so keep an eye on it.

Hey man. Nice to see you again.

I meant 285/30. Silly me. I was so buried in tire calculators at the time, just double checked and that's it.

So I ended up with an interesting situation. Tire and wheel package paid out massively, along with a cracked wheel from the first set.

All in all - I got an 18 inch square 8.5 for Winter and Spring. 245/35 all around on USA RIM replicas. They look great.

And I was able to finnagle a deal with the wheel distributor for M590s, only in Brushed Polished custom finish. These will be the same - 8.5/9.5 staggered with 245/35 in the front and 285/30 in the rear. I asked because I was swapping out for the 'winter set' and saw a tiny bit of damage to the guard, but nothing substantial, so I wanted to check.

If your 285/30s in the rear aren't giving you any grief, I should be good. I'll bring the car for a wash later and post the pics of the replica wheel set, and then the M590 brushed polished set when I get them on WHEN I DON'T SEE A SINGLE POTHOLE FOR AT LEAST A MONTH. :wall:

Good for you! Yeah I have not switched over to my summer 19's yet either because it is still pothole city out there. I might not get them on the car until June at this rate. It's 38 degrees and just started to snow. WTF?

Considering how much you guys spend on 2 set of wheels, that seem to get squared every other season, you should have enough money to move to Las Vegas.
Peaked 91F today. Full sun.
Too bad we are driving to California tomorrow, where it should rain whole weekend. ;)
Things you have to do for the family....
