Well, with those answers, I got nothing specific to suggest as to the cause. I'm driving the exact same model and year as you, though I have a staggered setup. My mileage is about the same and the car is still tight. At this point I would lean to some type of tire defect. Were these tires rotated regularly? If they are considered bi-directional they can be rotated in the traditional manner, switching axles and sides. If not, they can only go front to back on same axle. With my car, I checked with Conti to verify that they were bi-directional.
It sorta looks like the tires took a set to a specific direction and then when going the other way, small defects opened up.
This is all pure speculation on my part, so take it for what its worth.

Dealer checked the suspension and found nothing wrong with it. Went ahead and did an alignment and here is a picture of the result. Do you guys think the toe alignment being out of tolerance was the issue?

Also, glad to see your dealer gave you the before/after report. I got an alignment at my local dealer after getting new tires and they did not provide the report. I asked the service advisor about it and they looked at me like I was crazy for asking about it - like I didn't trust them. Now I don't trust them because without that report how do I know they did anything except take my money. Sorry, still a little bitter.

Thanks for the update! Yes, the toe would contribute to wear, but I don’t see where in this case it would be significant to cause chunking to occur.

I expect that contributed to the wear. You should be fine, just keep an eye on the tire wear going forward.
