Windshield Replacement and ADAS Calibration at Safelite

Driving up to Chicago last week and a rock kicked up by a semi and cracked the windshield.
$50 glass deductible, so I chose OEM replacement with Safelite. (Cost $300 more than OEE). Again only $50 for me, so I’m indifferent. But since the car is equipped with Adances Drivers Assistance System - Lane assist and collision prevention warning, and auto highbram. additional $300 was going to be applied for calibration at the shop vs having a mobile unit to come out. again still $50, all part of the claim.

my only concern is will Safelite calibrate to MB standard? There is a YouTube video by MB on calibration LOL using their STAR system. I doubt that’s what Safelite will use since they serve many brands. Conceptually, it’s probably the same and their system mostly adapts to all brands, and honestly, sometime I think my car gives off false positive when it detects center islands as potential collision. I had the mb shop recalibrate once before since car is still under warranty. (It still thinks center island sometimes as potential collision). So it’s not like I think the calibration that was done at dealer was that much better - well, they told me they did it anyways.

thoughts? Anyone has experience when Safelite did their ADAS calibration?

The calibration if needed needs to be done by Mercedes-Benz..

I had two windshields done by SafeLite and they offered for me to take the car to the dealer for calibration. I did not as the lane departure warning worked just fine. I think the calibration is only for that, not for collision warning.

Interested in following this thread as my windshield is 4 years old and has tons of small chips over the entire glass. Was considering replacing the windshield at safelite and wondering how this will work. Call my insurance company and told them about the pits (chips) in my windshield and unfortunately they told me that it was wear and tear and was not covered. Ugh!!!

That's what they make hammers for. Lane tracking assist and the auto High-Beam are the only items behind the glass which may require adjustment or calibration. Distronic and braking are all in the grille. Lane changing assist detectors are located in the rear behind the fenders themselves.

Located in So Cal; dealer replaced windshield and re-calibration whatever stuff; out of door $1,480 (with 7.75% local tax).
took dealer 4 days to complete the job.

OMG. No thank you very much. I would not pay that unless windshield was in need of repair and had no other options. Mine isn’t at that point.
