CPO Warranty Extension Cost

Certified Pre Owned vehicles from a Mercedes-Benz dealer come with an extra year of warranty and unlimited mileage. There's the possibility to extend the warranty by one or two years, both with unlimited mileage.

What have you paid for this two year extension? I'm based in Northern California, USA. Correct me if I'm wrong, I understand I can purchase the warranty anywhere in the USA.
My understanding is that the cost is the same for all E-Class vehicles; E250, E350, E400, E400 Hybrid, and E550 in RWD or AWD guise. The only exception is the AMG variant extended warranty costs more?

Thank you for your responses!

A good price I think should be anything close to $2000. The finance department you purchase from will probably convince you $2600-3000 is the best deal you'll ever find but you should just walk away from them and contact dealers across the nation for a better price. There's been a few discussions on the forums with contact info to get good cpo elw pricing.

Got it. Thanks! My research on the forums seems to indicate a price of just under $2000 is possible for a 2 year CPO warranty extension if I call several mid-west dealers. Local dealers to me in the SF Bay Area are asking for exactly that range you implied.

Thanks again for your helpful response!

I would post your question in the extended warranty forum https://mbworld.org/forums/extended-...scussions-191/

You'll get more responses and leads on dealers to work with to save $$ on price and sales tax if you buy out of state.

This thread is a little stale, but exactly what I need.

Am I understanding correctly that if i buy a CPOd car, I get the remainder of the factory warranty, plus the 1 year/unlimited CPO warranty and i have the option to purchase up to 2 additional years?unlimited miles within 30day of the CPO warranty kicking in. Also, the price on the extended warranty IS negotiable and the best places to call are listed in this thread?

I was told by a dealer that I had to buy the extended warranty when i buy the car.

You're correct about length of term, but I understood it to be you could buy the CPO extension up until the last day of the CPO warranty.

It varies. You can buy the warranty from any MB dealer. Some of them charge the extra fee if you don't do it in 30 days and some don't. I think at one point there was a dealer that claimed that they sold them for $100 over their cost and that was probably why they were the cheapest ones on the forum. The dealers seem to make several hundred or a thousand plus when they charge list price and they're not willing to let that go so usually the cheapest is through someone on the forum. I think it's done through email and it doesn't take them that long to do it so I guess $100 for under 1 hour of work isn't too bad.

And yes, you're correct, if you still have some of the original warranty you basically get 7 years unlimited miles if you buy the two extra years. But the CPO warranty isn't as good as the factory warranty so things like faded wood which would have been covered under the factory warranty wouldn't be under the CPO because it's considered cosmetic and that's not covered under CPO.

Recent CPO 2 year price

I just purchased a GLE400 at MB Hoffman Estates in IL (part of Zeigler Auto group) on 12/31/2020. (As an aside, I don't think i would recommend this dealership based on some overt shadiness but they had a CPO GLE that met my criteria).

I wanted to provide my extended 2 year CPO price b/c some of the thread had prices that was old. It seems like I got a good price of $2992 (8.25% sales tax included in that price) based on some of the more recent threads but if others got the 2 year CPO UNL miles extension for less, would love to hear so i can cancel and purchase from a cheaper dealer. =)

I have a client in Hoffman Estates, got my A services done there twice over the years, they did OK I thought, but I didn't buy a car from them.
If you look at post #4 TheFisch is pretty good and knowledgeable.

Yes, in particular the end of this thread (Cassandra and Jeff):

https://mbworld.org/forums/extended-...tension-4.html

I have bought my last 3 Mercedes from Hoffman Estates MB, but don't like the new owners. I did get a good price on my 2 year CPO extension , almost 2 years ago from them. It was closer to $2,000. David Bennett is my sales guy and Jason Palmer is my SA.
I still get my car serviced there, but am not so much a fan anymore.

IMO unless you have been having persistent issues or a have a known trouble-prone option like air-ride, the price of the extended warranty is not worth the risk. Had I bought it I would never have used it. In fact the only repair I have ever done that would have been covered under a warranty if I had one (mine expired 3 years ago) is replace the windshield washer tank last year which was far less than $2K. The E class is one of the most reliable cars MB makes.

No doubt the W212 is one of the most reliable, but engine mounts are basically a given - and not cheap. I never advocate for extended warranties but this one was worth it, I believe.

we paid for the 2 year extension on the CPO car we just bought. the dealer wouldn't negotiate at all on the price of the car, but they gave us quite a good break on the CPO extension

CPO on AMG models

All,
looking to purchase A two year extension on CPO - amg model . Though I've heard many prices and contacts quoted on this thread, I haven't heard what to expect if the car is AMG and how that changes that affects the price of the extension.
Any info here would be helpful.

Thanks

I bought mine at the San Diego Mercedes at the time of purchase 2 years ago for around $3K. They wouldn't negotiate it (probably because I haggled the price of the car very hard) but it was rolled into the financing

You can expect to pay a much higher price. Call one of the people who handle insurance mentioned in this thread. Nothing cheap about owning an AMG.

I have a 2016 W212 where the CPO is expiring in a couple of months and I'm debating extending it or not. How many of you that have extended the warranty have actually used it given the reliability of the W212/M276 platform?

ask me in 2-3 years? our CPO started dec. 2020, so will be awhile before any issues might crop up.

I extended mine 3 years for $3200. I made it worth every penny.

My first year of CPO started back in October. I extended it with Cassandra Castro, $2,150 for the 2 additional years. At that price, I'd say its worth it.

Looks like I will definitely get a set of mounts out of it. Other than that, I don't know. My car is at right about 47,000 miles.

I forgot to mention that the M276 engine is known to leak oil from the cam covers.. my car had that issue at 38,000 miles and it was repaired. It was still technically under bumper-to-bumper at that time but it would have been covered by CPO. Overall, the 2016 E350 - being the last model after years of working out the bugs, with it's naturally aspirated V6 and stuff.. these are about as reliable as it gets for Mercedes. Is your E350 a RWD version? Significant issues are just not common on the gasoline W212s, particularly the RWD ones and the later models.

My 2016 has a couple of issues as we speak.. CPO for sure won't cover one of them (a headliner bubble) and a defunct rear defrost. That one is unclear since the car is tinted they may blame that, or it may not be covered due to being "glass" which is excluded. Won't know until the car goes in for service at 50,000 miles. If you have fading wood, that also won't be covered.

However - I knew going into all of this that a 2016 E350 was probably the most reliable Benz I could buy, and I still felt it worth the $2150 it cost to buy 2 additional years just for peace of mind.

Mine's a RWD and I actively avoided getting a 4MATIC like the plague!
I'll have to also check my cam covers to see if there's any leak there. Not sure if there are any other places on the M276 engine that can develop leaks.

I get that...I'm pretty handy and haven't had much trouble taking care of my cars in the past (except BMW, I will never buy a plastic-y POS BMW again!! ). I use a local independent MB mechanic for more advanced tasks that I can't comfortably do w/o a lift or expensive tools, but w/Covid it seems his prices have also gone up quite a bit. It's definitely something to consider on extending the CPO warranty, that's for sure.

Thanks for the follow-up, I really appreciate it.
