How do I set my turn signal to flash three times?

I have noticed that if I touch my turn signal switch twice it will automatically flash 3 times on the second touch. How do I set it to flash 3 times on the first touch?

"Press the combination switch to the pressure point and the turn signal will flash three times". What does your manual say? It should work as described on the first try, there is no setting options.

92barker 07-05-2018 06:36 PM

On my 2010 e350 4matic the Owners manual has no reference to "Press the combination switch to the pressure point and the turn signal will flash three times"
I can't believe that setting isn't in the software.

cetialpha5 07-05-2018 06:51 PM

Yeah, a little confusing, MB always did that even in the W211, give it a slight tap and it will flash 3 times. Does that all the time.

The manual has to make reference to how the turn signals work. You are basically saying your manual does not reference this 3 flash operation with a tap to the pressure point? I find that hard to believe as this is an important feature for lane changes and safety.

Good morning,
I reexamined my owners manual for 2010 e350 4m and on page 100 the only reference was to move switch "up to position 2 to turn right and down position 4 to turn left". Nothing stated about the turn signal automatically flashing 3 times.

KEY08 07-06-2018 10:26 AM

No clue why they left that out of your manual and why it takes two attempts for it to function properly. I guess you will either need to live with it that way or spend a considerable sum with your dealer to fix it.

In my 2010 E550 it gives 3 blinks if I move the switch from its resting point and don’t need to move anywhere near the point to feel any resistance. Just a very quick move out of the resting point gives 3 blinks. If I hold the switch just a bit too long it will give only one blink. If I hold it for two blinks that is what I get and I do not need to be at the resistance point at all

The key for getting three blinks is to give the switch very quick “bump” and not hold it for too long.

Yep, just a flick of the wrist should do it.

Some features on MBs are so old, they hardly merit mention in the manual since they have been copied by every other manufacturer out there.

IIRC, the W203 C-Class (2001-2007) was the first in the industry to feature the turn signal repeaters in the side view mirrors. Today this feature is so common on just about every car that it's hardly worth mentioning.

The lane change 3-blink flash feature is the same, also standard on the W203 (and perhaps before) and on virtually every other Mercedes since. You just have to learn how to use it.

^ahem. Thank you Konigstiger!

The next time you are servicing your car, you can have them change the 3-blink to a 5-blink lane change.
I make smoother, slower, ponderous lane changes, and I've been pleased as the 5-blink is the perfect amount of time for me
(if I ever get an E63 I'll leave it on 3-blink :)

Surprised that no one suggested that OP check the blinker fluid level. That's not in the manual either I bet.

KEY08 07-09-2018 06:58 PM

Agree, Fisch. I got caught on a trip with no blinker fluid, and damn if I couldn’t find any. I suffered through it.

Well, I didn't know that blinker fluid was temperature sensitive, either. A few years back, I took a trip for Christmas from Dallas to the St. Louis area, and I couldn't use my blinkers, because the fluid had frozen. I didn't realize the blinker fluid sold in the south was good to 5°, while the northern blinker fluid was good to -30° Since then, every trip up north I buy some of the good stuff, and my blinkers work all the time, now.

I use green coolant. It gives the blinkers kind of blackish color thru the amber color plastic lense. Looks mean...

KEY08 07-10-2018 12:48 PM

^ I'm going to try that when I get low again. Good mod.

Green is way better than the original blue as that with the yellowish lens gave green blinker and I did not like that at all...

CanadianS212 07-13-2019 04:29 AM

Thank god we don't drive a BMW, those cars have no blinker fluid reservoir as can be experienced on the roads...

Johnny Rad 07-13-2019 09:17 PM

Really??

I’d prefer 5 blinks to the standard 3.

Opposite problem

Hi,
This is my first post. I have a 2003 C230 coupe (recently purchased). My problem is that my indicators only flash 3 times then stop (both sides). Dealers says its just a switch/relay they are waiting for to replace.
My research so far indicates that there is no relay as the indicators are run by the front SAM unit.
Also after reading this thread I am wondering if it is just a simple reset issue as per the setup for the 3 flash lane change to be cancelled???

You are on the wrong forum. Accordingly, I will state to get more that 3 flashes, you will need to purchase an E-Class MB, where that is offered.
(OK seriously) I have a W203 C320 and it flashes more that three times. But only 3-times using the lane change feature. YMMV
