A-Service Option (quote)

I have a 2014 E350 sport sedan -- no special options or anything. I called the dealer to make an appointment for A-service, and they gave me this quote:

Another dealer quoted the standard A-service to me for $225. Am I missing something here, or is the above quote a complete rip-off?

to me the mb service terminology is confusing, as "service a" and "service b" are called the same, but are different depending on the mileage interval, no?... so they're not the same... anyway, for 50,000 mile service interval, the "minimum" price seems reasonable but doesn't include the rear diff oil change, or fuel injector cleaning or four wheel alignment... which depending upon when last completed (if ever) may be needed... no doubt the "preferred" price is a complete rip off... sounds like you're already doing what i'd recommend, call around and shop the service prices if you have close dealers around... also consider indy shops...

Ouch....$130 at my local MB dealer.

What a ripoff. I wouldn't waste any time with that dealer.

cetialpha5 08-07-2018 09:10 PM

The oil conditioner, injector cleaning and odor removal are fluff items and I guess they jack up the price by $300. Most service A is in the $300 range but some dealers discount it more. Looks like the next level up charges $300 for an alignment, but it's nothing special, any tire shop could probably do it in the $70-$120 range.

I meant for regular A service not 50k service.

So their additional recommendations (mainly injector cleaning) for the minimum are standard for the 50K interval?

And thanks to everyone for your input thus far!

A service is an oil change! Where is this crook dealer??

KEY08 08-08-2018 09:41 AM

Dealer Preferred
No Value
Minimum in our store

Run like hell

Don't ever go back to that dealership for service again. Those prices are insane. Do a search online and see if there is an independent Mercedes or European service shop near you. You'll save hundreds.

pezzy669 08-17-2018 03:30 PM

Holy jeebus total rip-off!

My local dealer (Mercedes Benz of Buckhead) charges $129 for A service, was only $99 up until a few years ago. B service IIRC run ~$250.

The Indy shops around here charge around the same so I just go to the dealer since it’s like 1 mile from my condo. Helps that myself and my partner are friends with my service advisor outside of her work so she makes sure I’m taken care of when it comes to getting a loaner.

Jais2681 08-17-2018 03:39 PM

Thanks everyone. There are 5 MB dealerships within 20 miles of me, so I have options. I took my car to the furthest one (20 miles away), and their charge is $159. He did make recommendations like spark plug change, but he said it's not urgent. I feel much better about that price and the way they do business.

Thanks everyone for your input!

hyperion667 08-17-2018 04:11 PM

Right on man. Just because we have 'expensive' cars, doesn't mean we like to just throw it away. A common misconception haha.

I only have 2 dealers within that distance. I have to see the competition among them that others mentions on here. They both want about $250 for a service A.

My local independent was $180 for oil change and tire rotation- half the price (if not less) of the dealer and none of the risk of Jiffy Lube

And I though $20 was too much. That's what my local indy charges to change the oil and rotate the tires. I supply the oil and filter though. Used to be $10 to just change the oil.
