trunk won't latch using trunk button

has anyone experienced this with their w212? mine is 2010. it started a few days ago. the motor works to pull trunk down but won't latch once lid is fully down. i thought it might be something in the way so it won't close but i've cleared out my trunk and still won't latch. thanks

The latch may need adjustment or it is broken and in need of replacement.

i don't think latch is broken as i can manually close the trunk. how do i 'adjust' the latch?

Try lubricating the electric latch(on the lid) with some silicone spray and inspect it first.to make sure it's not hung up. Adjusting the catch(on the car) is probably not the problem since it will latch when you close the trunk manually. Unless you are having to slam the trunk very hard, in which case the catch may have been moved downward and the electric closer cannot pull the trunk down to work with that new catch position.

To adjust it..
there is a little latch under a black plastic trim piece , you can adjust that , but be careful , mark the position where its sitting in right now and then adjust it.

I had this issue and it was just because the latch had something slightly out of alignment. When the trunk closes itself the motion is cancelled if it detects ANY pressure, so it doesn't shut on your hand or something. Shutting the trunk yourself will allow it to latch fine.

What did you do to fix it? Which direction did you adjust to latch after unscrewing the 2 screws under the plastic panel?

I wish I could help more but my car was under warranty and the dealer fixed it. All I know is it appeared to be fine but they said something was just slightly off.
