Ecu Missing from vehicle

Hi Guys,

i recently purchased a W212 Facelift E250 on an online auction. Upon receiving the vehicle I noticed the Ecu was missing from the vehicle.I would like to find out if it is just a matter of buying a new ecu from the agents or will a used one do. When I checked the vin search epc, it shows a part number A2749000900, I have a friend who has an ecu with its key but it has a part number A2749000700, will this work ? Thanks

How did you "receive" the vehicle. Was it pushed out the back of a car hauler onto your driveway?
I think your only option is to order a new one from Mercedes Benz. I know when people have ECU tunes go bad they have to buy a new ECU directly from the dealer.

I had to get a Roll Back Tow Truck to fetch it for me, Also it wouldn’t allow me to select neutral. So had to use wheel skates to get it off the truck bed. A real struggle !

Yeah, I can imagine. I hope an ECU will get this thing going and you didn't buy a car with major issues beyond that!

Was the missing ECU disclosed at the auction? If not, depending on the state you live in, you were deceived and should have legal recourse with the auction.

Someone removed the ECU deliberately to disable the car. Is this a procedure some insurance companies use to total a car so it can't be resold? Was there a title for this car? Selling a car without its ECU is like selling a car without any keys, or without a steering wheel, or without an engine... maybe all three.

Heaven only knows what else is wrong with this car. Unless you paid what amounts to salvage value for this car -- and knew you were buying a non-functioning vehicle no better than a flood-damaged hulk -- I would make the auction take the car back at their expense.

Must be ordered from a dealer and programmed in the car at the dealer. You cannot re-program a used one. Have it towed to a dealer and prepare for the worst.

I'm not able to view the video here at work, but wouldn't you have to have the original ECU to be able "clone" the programming out of it to push into the replacement unit???
