I have some details about this in my engine mount thread, but I wanted to start a specific thread on this topic for visibility. The short version of the story is that I had to remove the AC compressor to do engine mounts and I cannot get the top bolt started. I can get it pushed in far enough so that it should grab, but it never does. Brand new bolt from dealer. Right now it's just dangling there. Had same problem with the old one too. Any tips?
I have the M276 motor in my car so no direct knowledge to share. Can you get any bolt started? It would seem to me that you have an alignment problem and getting just any bolt started would allow you to pivot the other two into position. According to EPC,(attached) bolts are M8x90mm long (3.543") so make sure that what you have is long enough. Sometimes working alone gets frustrating without that anatomically missing third hand to hold a heavy part while fishing for a hole.

Thanks for that. Yes it's #2 bolt I am having trouble with. So, the attached document said to remove #1 first, then install in reverse order. I loosened #1 and tried wiggling things around and still nothing. I am about to hook up my remote viewer camera thing and see if I can get some insight that way. The frustration factor is through the roof on this!
The car is driveable though with just the two bolts and the belt holding it in, but I don't really want to leave it that way.
MISSION SUCCESS!! I wanted to share what I did in case it may help others. So, I used a remote viewer from the top end of the hole down in (see screenshot) and I was able to see that the bolt was butting up against the back of the bracket. I got a prybar and gently pried the compressor forward after loosening bolt #1 a bit and was able to get it in, and it went in nice and smooth. Wow, now I finally feel good about this.
