Mercedes E-Class goes into Park when slowing down
 

Hi guys I wonder if someone can help me out there I am having problems with my Mercedes E Class w212 when slowing down it just throws itself into Park with no warning lights or messages. It doesn't happen all the time it comes and goes I have had my main battery changed and had it programmed in and for a week I did not have a problem.

By chance are you pulling the door handle while the car is still moving as you slow down? Doing this will immediately place the transmission in Park.

I'm I'm doing nothing at all like that my hands are on the steering wheel at all times....

OK, but it may be there is a door switch that is out of adjustment making the car think a door is open while moving. If you have this happen again, take notice if the overhead lights come on at the same time the car goes into park. If so, the switch may need adjustment. If not, there must be other conditions that make the car think it is in a door open condition, and there may be other sensors that cause it to go into park. Maybe some of the MB experts on here have an idea what is causing this. It can't be good for the transmission to have this happen often. Good luck with the diagnosis.

If VIN is below A776831 see attached bulletin ignition switch may be faulty.

Someone did someone did mention radar sensor control module could be faulty.

There have been other posters with the same issue. I think this is definitely the cause of your problem. I remember an MB tech on here stating this as the cause in another thread, but cannot find it now. Share this with your SA

Yesterday I had it plugged into a mobile diagnostic machine and the man at the workshop drove it and it happened whilst he was driving so he drove back to the garage and we had a fault saying that there is a problem with the radar control unit not communicating.

To be honest I wouldn't know if it was parktronic or the other lol... It is a 2013 E220 blue efficiency.

This is a common issue with W212 chassis cars....... Ignition switch needs replacement.

Can I reprogram this switcs or would I have to buy a new one.

Somewhat off topic but related...is it possible to program the car to NOT go into park mode when opening door with a STAR DAS system? I like to sometimes stick my head out when parking in reverse and have a tendency to forget that the car will go into park mode when door is opened at low speed. I'm sure the transmission doesn't like it either.

If vehicle is within VIN range request MBUSA goodwill replacement arguing EIS installed @ production is defective per bulletin.

There is no reprogramming this EIS. It's a built in safefty so that when you remove the key from the switch, it will automatically put the transmission into park.
