I'm not even sure what it's called! It's the black triangular piece of trim on the driver's side (UK, passenger in US), related to the wing mirror. It's not aligned properly and sticking out, as you can (hopefully?) see.

Sorry for the crappy pictures, I'll take better ones tomorrow - too cold and dark at the moment!

Cheers!

Ed

Not sure on that model but generally you remove the inside piece that has the speaker and then you'll see 3 screws that hold the morror on, loosen them and reposition the mirror correctly then reassemble things. If the cars new and under warranty take it to the dealer.

Thanks! It’s an early W212, a 2009. I’ll have a look at the inside trim and see how easy it is to do that!

There's a tweeter there on the door, but I can't see ho two remove it. I'll give it a google now, but does anyone know of a tutorial that could help me sort this?

Is the process the same as on this W204 - and do you guys think this will allow me to realign it?

I took off my mirrors since you have to when you take off the front door trim. You have to take off the tweeter cover, just pops off. Inside there are I think 2/3 screws. Undo the screws and the mirror comes off. To put it back on correctly, the lip that is sticking out in your picture has to be seated first. It slides in behind the trim piece. When you get it off you'll see what I mean.. Once that lip goes in the rest seats normally.. Then just put everything back together reverse of how you took it off. Should take at the most 15 minutes, that's if you really take your time.

Hi guys,

I attempted this today, turned into a bit of a debacle, I got the tweeter off, for the top trim off and took some of the screws out - one of which fell into the damn door!

So I had to pop all the clips on the door panel to get it out the bottom (thought I’d have to remove he whole panel). When I took the top trim off I also tried to get the ‘H’ clip out with needle nose pliers and made a complete hash of it and pushed the middle bit into the door... whatever, I guess I will order a new clip. Mercedes and their ‘one use clips’...

Anyway - my main point is - I’ve realised that however I try, the wing mirror always ends up the same when you tighten the three bolts. I seat it correctly and it looks okay, but as soon as I tighten the bolts fully, that side pops out. But it looks quite straight and not obviously warped.

The rubber trim looks fine to me too.

I believe this has been taken apart before from the looks of things, but the wing mirror has no damage and I believe the date code of the plastic shell all matches up with the date of the car.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Worried about water getting in there, not just my OCD!

Mirror frame may need replacement (10 in diagram). Need VIN to shop correct part #.
