1999 SL 500 & 2011 E 550 4Matic
On pistonheads.com , I found this reference to a 2011 W 212 with 299,000 miles;

"I had two W211's doing log distance chauffeur work, both did over 300k miles with no major issues.

I had and still have a 2011 W212 now on 299k again with no major issues. Had a new water pump at 220k and a rear shock at 80k due to the top bush being slightly worn, and it is still going strong".

Impressive!

exactly - I think it’s 66,666 (not 666,666). 😀

Thanks for pointing this out.

There were actually a couple MBs with over 300,000 miles, which is encouraging.

I did not know that there is E500 W212, I always thought it has to be E550 (if its V8 and not AMG). Does your car have the M278 4.7L?

We have a 2011 E350 Bluetec with just over 126,000 miles on her. Bought in 2013 with 14,000 miles. Had a few problems while under warranty, one on us. This car does have one electrical gollywoggle. Wifey can pull over 42 MPG out of her as long as she stays under 75 MPH. The dealer couldn't fix the problem. Poor us.

Yes, it's the same engine/car but here the "E-500" is like a own brand or at least more common..maybe thats why and of course it's nearer to the 4.7

MB’s
I am a little over 50,000 miles now. I was in Springfield, MA over the weekend to go to the new MGM Grand Casino and I messed up my 2 front tires. Hit a pothole and now I need 2 new fronts So much for the casino winnings. It was in the darkest of night and I could not avoid it. Really annoyed with myself.

These are all pretty low miles on cars now up to 9 years old, approaching 10. My 2012 E550 is now at 93K MI with only normal maintenance. I expect to have it at least a few more years.

The ones that "break" are when people are stretching their budget to buy a used one with close to or more than 100k and lucky if it's had all the maintenance to that point. Then they don't ever do anything further except maybe cheap oil changes at the jiffy lube waiting for something to completely fail before they fix it. This is where Toyota and Honda get a better rep. I just sold a 2003 Toyota Solara with 213k on the clock from my in-laws who haven't put one dime of unnecessary repair into it since buying at 100K. I changed the plugs and they were the worst wear I've ever seen, probably original. Also never changed the timing belt during that period, lucky if that was not original. It still ran like a top. It had tired suspension and all, but engine and trans totally fine, along with AC and all the other accessories and electronics., convertible top was still original, working perfectly and not a hole or leak.

MB or anything else will last "forever" with the proper recommended maintenance, as well as some things the manufacturer never made a schedule for because they don't think past the warranty period. There is no such thing as a fluid that never needs to be changed, and suspension parts will need a refresh at some point.

As far as being a taxi, that variety of E is the bare bones diesel without the fancy suspension and electrical goodies. I'm glad I got a rather low option build with traditional suspension, but still has the glorious M278 engine, real leather, and a fair amount of standard luxury that comes with American varieties of MB. The goodies are nice, until they break. I'd love to have dynamic seats, but boy would I be pissed when one of those bladders went out.

It's true every vehicle has some weak point, or a premature failure of some component. Do your research and avoid the ones with those systems that seem to exhibit an abnormal or premature failure rate.

"here" as in your domicile, or "here" as in this thread?

If this thread, the post immediately above yours is 303K. Plus, I've seen higher.

That 303,000 mile car is a 2009 W211. Impressive but little off topic on this W212 thread.

Looking for mileage stats from W212 owners.

My report of a Piston Heads post is interesting - but off topic as well due to it being hear say. Not reported by an owner.

What type of high mileage & what Class have you seen?

I am also on the R129 forum & there are no high mileage SL 500 cars being reported there.

My 2010 E550 has 161400 miles on the clock.

Engine does not not burn a drop of oil. I change oil every 5000 miles.
