Modified E250

I see that there's not many E250's on here but i'd thought I would post up anyways.

I'm fairly new to the Mercedes scene modifications wise (I currently own a W204 and a R172 as well and various other race/stock cars) and purchased a 2012 E250 CGI with AMG options to play around with.

Have noticed it responds fairly well to current mods, but seeing the amount of knowledge on this site, I thought I ask the experts on other suggestions for modifications that would be beneficial on these cars.

I am an Ex Mechanic and a Metal Fabricator, so mods made from scratch don't cost me an arm and a leg..

Any input appreciated.

Current mods:
3" Alloy intake pipe
3" turbo back, 100cell race cat, to stock rear mufflers (mid muffler's have been deleted)
Performance panel filter
Turbo muffler delete

Coming next:
Intercooler and hard pipes
GFB BOV/Return valve upgrade
Coilovers (have been ordered)
Hybrid turbo with billet front wheel and custom steam pipe manifold mated to stock rear housing (i can make a bolt on kit if there is enough interests)
Tuning
Possible rear tail light/bumper conversion (I like the older W212 front head lights,)
Retro fit some interior options that i'm missing

Very cool thread! looking forward to seeing this build. Any pics of the R172? I am in the market for a SLK350 myself.

Cheers

Here is my 2012 R172 SLK200. It was cheap, one older owner and very little miles on it. I was looking for an A207 convertible E class and stumbled over the SLK cheap.
Hard to find one with an AMG styling kit in Aust, but for the price, couldn't complain. Its optioned with the Red leather bucket seats (would have preferred black). Ill be swapping
over my standard 19" wheels from the E250 to the SLK200 shortly, they look pretty good on it.

Those are some nice welds! And cars too.
Whats's your setup?

Setup on the car?

Renhoek007 02-26-2019 06:40 AM

Hey Jay. Do you know where the MAF sensor is located on these things? I am having trouble finding it!

cheers

Hey bro,

The W212 M271 has 3 MAP sensors from what I have seen. I havent seen any MAF sensors on either of my 1.8T cars (however there is a indent on the intake pipes for the MAF sensor)

Map sensors i have seen so far:
On the intake pipe (in the middle under the engine cover)
On the front of the throttle body (boost side on the plastic inlet housing)
On the back of the intake manifold (under the air box)

Are you having issues with error codes?

Sorry, I meant to ask about the welding setup. It's something I want to get into as another DIY hobby and would like to learn as much as I can before spending the money on equipment.

No issues with error codes, but I too have a 2 litre cgi engine and fouling of the inlet valves worries me. I wanted to spray an intake tract and turbo cleaner into the intake system to deal with it, but as you would know, such cleaners must be sprayed downstream of any MAF sensor. I just could not find such a sensor on my E250 CGI. If I can be sure there is no MAF sensor, then I could spray the cleaner into the turbo intake, cleaning the intake, turbo, intercooler, throttle valve and inlet valves all in one hit. That was the thought anyway.

but first wanted to be sure there was no MAF.

cheers mate and thanks for the response.

Oh, thats cool. I'm a self taught welder, If you have questions, just ask.

I run a AC/DC 200Amp TIG welder which covers fairly much everything you need to weld.
I had a industrial MIG back up, but sold it cause i never used it after buying the TIG (much much cleaner and quieter)

MIG is easier how ever limited to materials you can weld
TIG is much more robust regarding what you can weld, but you need to know what you are welding to match the filler.

Ahh the 2t, I run the 1.8t as my car is a late 2012. I'm yet to get my head into a 2t engine bay that wants work done to their car. Id confirm with someone who has one first.
Also the intake manifold/head cleaners are made to just spray into the intake, not the turbo/intercooler system (most things would just end up in the intercooler as its the lowest point).
From seeing photos of the 2t engine, the MAF would normally be located right at the airbox, where it attaches to the turbo intake pipe.

if you do have a MAF, it would normally be here: (google images)

Do you have dyno numbers before and efter the engine mods. Would be very interesting to see.

Awesome job otherwise and love the attention to detail and craftmanship, oftentime you see people just slapping stuff together with no regard to aesthetics and durability...

Thanks,

Unfortunately I didnt do a dyno run as a stock car, but it has woken up the car a lot.

The aim is to get close to 200kw from the little 1.8t engine.
