anyone given up on keyless go?

I have gone back to the key in the ignition on my keyless go W212 to start. Got tired of once in a while intermittently not connecting to start button plus simply a place to put the key. I know you can just leave in your pocket and come & go. Perhaps this old dog can'y learn new tricks hard to say.

It's hit or miss if I use the keyless entry or hit the unlock button when I approach. I always use the key fob to lock when I get out.

Anyone else in this camp?

NOPE I sue mine all the time and have never used the key in the old fashion way.

Not sure what you mean Intermittently connecting. never heard of that.
I sit in car put foot on rake and press button and engine starts no issues.

Even told me FOB battery was weak and needed to be replaced which is simple enough.

Also love just hitting door handle to lock car much easier with arm full of stuff heck hit it with your butt too works.

If I was you under warranty I would go get your keyless go fixed so it works as intended - "nothing but the best"

I haven't given up but I do have issues with it. It's always a thrill when I'm driving along and my music drops, the car chimes really loudly, and the angry red "KEY NOT DETECTED" shows on the instrument cluster.

Did you try the other key and have you changed the battery in your fob? I don't have any problems with mine. You could also get it scanned, sometimes the antenna goes bad and other components. But I have it on my W211 and it also works fine. The W212 is actually better as it has less problems than the W211 where the handles would fail all the time when water got inside the switches. The W212 is better designed and water doesn't get in like they used it.

I got this key not detected or replace battery all the time. This is part of the reason I gave up on it. When not detected I'd get out of the car lock then unlock back in and typically it was fine. It just became not worth the occasional headache. Maybe I'll change my mind back at some point.

Did you try replacing the battery? Get a voltmeter and check the battery. New they should be 3.25-3.35 volts. I get the warning message when they drop down to 3.06. They start to act funny when the voltage is that low so whenever I get the low battery warning, I just change them right away and they're fine afterwards. You can easily pick up brand name batteries on eBay or Amazon. Usually 10 is just few dollars. I'm told the dealer uses Panasonic. They didn't last any longer than Energizer, Sony or Duracell which I've tried in the past.

I've tried both generic and MB re-branded (Panasonic) batteries and the issue constantly occurs. Figured the issue was deeper than the battery so I'll just swap to sticking in the key at some point I'm sure.

What's the voltage of the battery? Store ones tend to be old and don't have as much of a charge. Plus all the fakes out there....

Also things like a phone would tend to block the signal. Mine doesn't always work if the phone is in front of the keys.

As mentioned earlier, the fobs could also go bad which is why I suggested trying the other key.

MB’s
I have had cars with and without it. I do not look at it as a deal breaker.

I'm at the point where I probably wouldn't consider a car without it. If I'm putting something in the dash, I'd rather put an old school key in there, at least that is water proof. VW's old keyless system was the worst, you had to put the fob into the dash... so stupid.

I've gotten that key not detected message a few times. I found hitting the unlock button on the key fixes it and off I go. I have never used the key in the ignition ever.

It's possible that you hit the lock button on the key fob twice. If you do that, it disables the keyless go function. I never hit the buttons on my fob so it always works.

To each his own I guess. This is now a deal-breaker, must-have feature for me. My wife's car doesn't have the smart key feature and I am too embarrassed to admit how many times I get in her car with the key still in my pocket and then sit there for a moment before I figure out what's wrong with this picture. In fact, if they offered the Jason Bourne implant so I didn't have to carry the key I would strongly consider it.

Yeah, I have that issue with my Lincoln. "Where the hell is my button!?" But still. It shouldn't have issues as often as I have them. =\

Nope

I love mine BUT! When I first bought the car it would start with the keyless go but wouldn’t shut off. Then I started getting the key not recognized bit and THEN the car started going into park whenever you slowed down to 2 or 3 miles an hour. Turns out it needed the electronic ignition switch replaced. $950

Still waiting to hear from MBUSA to see if I can get some goodwill money back

This feature works well most of the time.
Once, we had to bring back to dealer to get the module in the trunk fixed under warranty to make it work again.

I still think "KeyLess Go" is a misnomer & a scam $700 option, since unlike my Vette, you really can't just walk away & go, and vehicle locks itself. You must physically touch the handle or push button on key to lock....

On the rare occasion the wife uses the car and she is at the mall when this happens it will be panic time.

Yeah, I gave up when I bought the car that didn't have it! Actually keyless systems make your care extremely easy to steal. Thieves get a box on the black market that will capture the signal from your fob while it's inside your house, and use that code to activate and drive the car away from your driveway. Are we really so lazy now we can't just carry the keys in our hands? I keep them in my pocket all day every day, any time I'm not at home.

While that's possible it's not very common. It's why you have insurance. If you're worried about that, you mind as well worry about people with tow trucks stealing your car. Or people with a bump key picking your lock and robbing your house. I have a parking lot anyway so they'd have to figure out where I lived first and the thieves are banking on your key being near the door or able to communicate outside the house. If it's stored deep in the house, it wouldn't have the range to capture the signal and repeat it to the car. Plus you can either shut off the key by hitting the lock button twice or put it inside a faraday cage if you're really worried about it.

I live in a popular older neighborhood with "bungalow" type smaller houses from the 50s and 60s, it's pretty common occurrence according to my neighborhood social app. Lots of newer cars stolen without keys.

Same. Get the key not detected message occasionally but thats the extent of the "problems". Just take it out and hit unlock and then I am good to go.

Annoying? Sure but its a first-world complaint in my book.

Ugh. Those things are the worst. "Have you seen my dog?" "Who is this person?" "I lost my dog." "What's that noise?" "Anyone find a dog?" "What's the weird light in the sky in the middle of the day?" "Reward for dog."

But maybe I'm the only one who lives around really ****ty pet owners.
