Radar Detector Rear-View Mirror Mount
Any suggestions for a good rear-view mirror mount for our W212?
I purchased a Uniden R1 radar detector and was wondering if there's any good mount available with almost non-existent stem on the rear-view mirror. I'm planning to hard-wire it. |
Ran mine to glove box compartment

I searched for a long time and was unable to find anything compatible with the Mercedes Rearview mirror. I thought about experimenting with some of the "universal" mounts to see what I could modify to fit.

Take that little windshield box off that behind the mirror and make 2 holes to hold your version of radar detector holder. Make sure it's precise and keep in mind they aren't too close to the clips. It will sit perfectly under the mirror out of the way of that box. Run the wire through the back of that box , up the mirror and you can either tap the mirror , passenger visor or use a special fuse on driver side panel (video on YouTube for tapping ). The wire should be ran along the windshield. You'll never even see it. It will turn on and off with the car. Good luck

I have a hardwired Uniden R3 and “ velcroed “ the angle mount to the dot matrix next to the mirror. Using this stuff for years and have never had the Mount come loose on any vehicle:
it allows you to tuck the detector up high between the mirror and the visor. You actually have to tug pretty hard to separate this super “Velcro” |

Can u tap the mirror for power? |
My Valentine One sits on the top of dashboard, while hold to the windshield with its suction cups.
There is a law, who says where you can have gadgets mounted in driver view, so you might want to check local laws. Probably not much enforced, but if you spend time to do it, why not to do it right? |

I found an articulating ball joint mount that double stick tapes to windshield on Ebay - see pic below
Stuck to black part on W/S just to left side of Mirror. I can tuck it up high just below tint band on glass. wired around to passenger side - under glovebox - into center console under ashtray thingy. inside there is 12vdc switched power I found link in another thread in this section on that one very clean and hidden. think it ties into power feeding cig lighter thingy. I loved it so much did same to wife,s Volvo except wiring a little different as it has fuse panel on driver side which is much easier to get to. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...292560fec3.jpg |
