Flange gasket
Between intake manifold and intermediate flange A2761410180
Notice the little guide ear on the upper half of the gasket, in the middle bottom..

I dont see why they shouldnt last another 15 years.
m276 is not boosted and the only reason dealership removes the manifold is because its easier to access the driver side coils/plugs. Just because a factory has determined one way, it does not mean people will not find shortcuts that are still up to spec. .

Anyway, I'll tackle this in a month or so and I will see how I feel about removing the intake manifold.
I have a couple of videos from youtube, it doesn't look very difficult if a bit time consuming.

Well the temperature is pretty hot in there and it's a rubber gasket so I imagine it will harden over time.

Nope, not even close by a mile. There are metal bracket on the side and intake manifold from the top. I had to use a screw driver to route the rope around the coil. I did not pull by the rubber, I wrapped around a plastic tab that is there to pull on. This is just for that very last plug on drivers side over by the firewall. Its not that bad unless you have stiff fingers. The coils can stick to the plug and keeping pressure while pulling is neccesary. They will not come off with just sudden pull, you need to apply pressure and hold until it pops off.
