Resetting the Transmission
I just found this reference in a post;
” Try resetting the ECU. It really works. We have adaptive transmissions so they adapt overtime to your driving style. Check out this link.
http://www.mercedesmedic.com/reset-m...-instructions/
“
I am not at all unhappy with the shifting in the car I have owned for only 5 months. Generally very strong ... and it has probably learned that I like to drive aggressively a good amount of my driving time.
Just wondering if any one has tried this reset procedure. Happy with the results?

Odds say more have tried than not. Yes it’s widely known and of course it works.

Per my experience the transmission adapts to the style in just few miles, so reset is not going to last long.
Living in CA we have been driving to top of the mountain park for hiking.
Going back on 3 miles drive, I was using gears for braking, driving most on 2nd gear.
So the 3 miles of downshifting was enough to keep slow gear changes for the rest of the day.
I usually drive for comfort, so use moderate acceleration (still I am faster than 99.9% at green light) but from time to time I don't hesitate to brush kick-down switch.
Italian tune-up works and good idea to do it every month.

Oh this certainly works, and works well for my car. Probably one of the best little tricks I have found for this car in general. When I start to feel it getting sluggish and funky, it’s a reminder to me to do this the next time I shut down the car, which is maybe once a month or so. Then it’s back to normal. I read somewhere (maybe in that thread you posted) that it’s not resetting the transmission so to speak, but rather the throttle position sensor data.
Wish there were a way to just tell it to stop “learning”. I have a feeling it’s probably related to the fact that the start/stop feature is on by default and tied to fuel mileage for import tax reasons.

Works very well and needs to be done once every 3 weeks or so. I had the shifting in this car. Once I do this I love it for about 1.5 to 2 weeks and then I need to reset it again. After reset its as smooth as butter for about 1.5 weeks.

I just did this procedure last night on the way home from work .
The driving I did for 15 minutes was a combination of cruising, stop & go, simulated hard passing, quick off the line.
All the article said was to not race - unlesss you want a racing shift pattern all the time.
I was not unhappy before - just curious about the potential results.
Going to do the 1999 SL 500 today - the wife has been putting around in it through the winter.

I use Xentry to reset it.

The key and gas pedal method for resetting the transmission did not work for me as well.
I did find a Reset Adaption Data command in AutoEnginuity that I immediately noticed a difference when driving. This reset and corrected the hard 4-3 downshift I had been experiencing.
Also in AutoEnginuity is another actuation command called "ECU Reset". Does anyone know the difference between the two and how deep each command goes into the TCM memory setting?

I've used this procedure, and it works. What I can't remember is whether to start the procedure in ignition press one, or two. The link above says press ignition twice.
This thread says to use position one... https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ton-start.html
Soooooo, which is it?

With the keyless go system and foot off the brake pedal it will be two pushes of the start button to turn on the ignition. I have the keyless system as well, but pulled out the button and inserted the key. I then followed the key method to try and reset the TCM. Maybe that where I went wrong, perhaps I should have used the keyless method instead.
I prefer the scan tool procedure since its binary, on or off, no guessing or questioning. Worked the first time.
I just can't find more information on the two reset options. AutoEnginuity tech help doesn't know either!

With keyless go and foot off the brake 2 pushes = knob in position 1.
I never did transmission reset on any of my MB in last 20 years.
Don't have any complains about shifting, but shall I try just for the experience?

If you reset it it will have to learn again, which means that you will experience some rough shifts as it re-maps the entire adaption table.
My 4-3 rough downshifts occurred due to a "light foot" as MB calls it. There is a TSB and re-flash for it, but for now the reset is working.
