Questions regarding flush/meaty wheel and tire set up for 2012 E550

Hey Everyone,

I have gone through the picture thread, I haven't been able to get a solid idea as to which offsets/wheel width/tire size would accomplish a flush and meaty setup for a 2012 E550 sedan. I do not want any stretch or rubbing, the car is lowered on links. Looking for a set of 19’s or 20’s

Any pictures/specs/experiences would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Anyone?

I'm on OEM 19" E63 AMG wheels, with 285/30 in the rear. 245/35 up front. I'm close to parity on this setup to maintain a proper 4Matic friendly environment. My car is not lowered, so you would be closing the gap. The slightest of poke in the front due to our 550's not having the wider E63 fender.

I know this is old but did you ever get this "meaty" fitment. I am considering something similar for my w207.

Im lowered with H&R Lowering Springs with 15mm spacers in the back (12mm in the front) on the
8.5Jx18 ET48
9Jx18 ET54
staggered and I can't fit my finger between my fender and tire

looks good. I am thinking of beefing up my tires to either 275/35/19 or 266/35. Id like even a 40 aspect but not sure that the w207 can accommodate this.

Im already running 265/35r18 in the back. Looking into wheels but that’s down the road. I could probably fit 275 on my wheels. 245 on the front & ps4 all the way around

18” with 275 will definitely work. I’m currently running 275/30/19 with no issue. I just want more meat.

I have the same stock 18" that you have and I'm running 255/40x18 in the front and 285/35x18 in the rear with no rubbing or any interference. I'm not lowered though.

Do you have any full car shots?

Hhhmm, 12mm spacer in front with an ET48 would result a bit of scrubbing of tire to the plastic liner of wheel well if you go fast enough and encounter road imperfection where suspension travel will max out aka bottom out. I am forced to use 5mm spacer at the front due to my 18" 8.5J, ET47 BBS CH-R Nürburgring Edition ( all 4 rims/wheels same size ) kissing my code 950 Brembo 4 pistons calipers by approx 2.5mm. Standard suspension though and front strut is a Bilstein B4, which is equal to standard unit.
My car is already lowered by MB by 15mm as standard ( compared to smaller engines W212) as described in its MB Indonesia sales brochure as E400 AMG Line .....yeah dumb-azz fake AMG

I discovered the super minor scrubbing last year 2021 trip Jakarta to Bali, where the bridge to highway joints are bad in some of the paid highway and making my car kinda fly-up and bottoming out its suspension upon landing, when over such bad road joints at 110-115 MPH. 2 years ago in 2020 same Jakarta-Bali run , a bit a slower 90-100 MPH but 100kg more weight, same tire and suspension set up at the front, no scrubbing.

This is the car lifted a bit using MB standard jack, so that I can photo the scrubbing area. This was taken in Bali and I do not have any other jack :(

My finger marked where at the plastic liner of the wheel well , the scrubbing occurred. Not at mid point of the wheel uniquely.
I am on 245/40/18" Mich Pilot sport 4 at the front.

The left side , slight darker region 8-10cm / 3-4" long approx, is the minor scrubbing area

Since I am on ET47 and 5mm spacer, technically my tire moves outward by 6mm over standard factory set up.
I do not know if a W212 facelift 2014/2015 up, its plastic wheel well liner is any different for tire clearance wise from non-facelift ones.... this scrubbing is a non issue for me as there is
zero damage on the tire and the fender well liner is flexible and actually has quite an air void between it and the real METAL parts of the wheel well. However scrubbing is still scrubbing.

I am curious, yours at 12mm spacer with ET48 is equal to 12mm more outwards your tire is now over standard. Do you get similar rubbing at high speed + bad road surface ?

some food for thought. tire sizing isnt sized correctly for my E these were off my CL55. will post back when i get new tires.

20*9.5 et45 with 255/35/20, 20*10 et43 with 285/35/20

I'll have to check for rubbing, I've bottomed out and havent noticed any rubbing. Car has been to 160mph. Roads here in Florida are not super bad.
I'll get you an update when I drive today, Ill check for rubbing on the liner. I did not get an alignment after installing my lowering springs myself, so I also have a degree or two of negative camber

These are what I currently have. If you'd like more angles, let me know what you're looking for. Ignore the melted diffuser, that happened for... reasons :D
