Mercedes w220 w212 parking sensors
 

hi all. i diagnosed my system with a fault on front sensor 1.....all well and good.....cant find no diagrams of which is nr 1?????
any help welcome

The only diagram I have shows the wiring harness to the six forward sensors, but none of them are labelled.

One can make a couple of assumptions and do some testing.

1) It's clear all the sensors are contained in one wiring harness, as shown (pt. 465). So the ASSUMPTION is that the #1 and #6 sensors are the first and last in the string.
2) The wiring connector is on the passenger side, so the ASSUMPTION is that the #1 sensor is on the passenger side.

I think this can be tested... Someone will need to be in the car, with the engine running, foot on brake with the tranny in D (albeit stationary). The outside testor will need to stand alongside either front door, with a small cardboard square (or an empty cereal box). Walk forward and pass the "blocker" about 4-6 inches over the field of view of the passenger side bumper sensor. The person in the car should see and hear the display atop the dash instantly respond with it's RIGHT side lights/buzzer, etc. If it does not, walk around the back of the car, and block the driver side sensor until you get the LEFT side warnings. Whichever sensor responds will be the #1 sensor.

I may recruit my 15 y-o grandson to test this myself later today, just for ****es and giggles.

in theory its like that.....in reality its different....mb system totally disables the parktronik system so NONE of the 12 sensors (6 front and 6 back) are working......the diagnostic system tells me its nr 1 front.....so the cardboard box trick doesnt work no more....the conventional sensor has two pin connection....these have 3.....so back to square 1!!

Do you need to remove the bumper for access to the sensors and retaining clips?

no! you can access them from underneath when shield protection removed.....
