M276 ticking noise

2013 E350 with 35k miles. Been doing as much research on here as I can before posting. Seems like it could be the timing chain? The ticking speeds up when the RPMs go up so hopefully that isolates it to the timing chain, although I'm not familiar with MB at all yet. Anyone with knowledge of the M276 have advice on what the common flaws are with this engine? Thanks

Sure it is not exhaust leak?

Definitely not sure. I was just going by what I was able to find by searching the forum. Seems like the timing chain is common and it sounds identical to the videos I was able to find

All the M276 direct inject engines make a ticking noise from the injectors. This can be heard when the hood is up and you're close to the engine compartment, but shouldn't be noticeable inside the car. The only way to be sure whether your ticking noise is normal is to take the car to a dealer or an indie MB expert. Or, I suppose you could go to a dealer lot as a 'prospective buyer' and ask to listen to the engines of some M276 used cars just to get your own comparison.

You can hear it with the hood down, but not in the cabin unless windows are down and I drive by something the sound can ricochet off of. But I'll definitely take it in just to be safe

I've had both the water pump and the HPFP replaced under ELW for ticking noises like this.

Agree with Kilt that M276 direct injection engines tick more than non-direct injection gasoline engines. Quasi-diesel sounding. I can hear it in the cabin. W166 GLE350.

Yeah it's very diesel sounding, but not as deep. Like I can't feel anything through the gas pedal or anything like that. That's why I haven't really taken it serious. It doesn't sound like metal on metal contact, but it doesn't sound normal if that makes sense

camou, yes it doesn’t sound like the old (non-DI) normal.

It is, however, the new normal.

That's comforting I guess haha. I'm going to take it to a dealer soon anyways, since I got it from a Nissan dealer and have no idea what has been done to it before I got it. Thank you very much for responding
